Summary:

In conjunction with the Radiology Medical Director, the employee will provide oversight within the clinical practice of Interventional Radiology across Catholic Health; this is to also include vascular access services.

The Director of Interventional Radiology is responsible for team structuring, training, quality assurance, performance improvement and program development. He/she will participate in direct patient care and provide procedural mentoring/proctoring to Advanced Practice Providers (APP), Technologists and Registered Nurses (RN) within Interventional Radiology and Vascular Access Teams.

The employee will be accountable for education, direction, supervision, and evaluation of APPs and RNs within the Interventional Radiology department. He/she will possess expert procedural skills including but not limited to, vascular access, ultrasound assisted procedures and computed tomography assisted procedures. He/she will also possess knowledge and procedural competency to assisted Radiologists in fluoroscopy and angiography-based procedures.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing or Graduate of a Physician Assistant school approved by the NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants), CAHEA (Committee on Allied Health Education) and Accredited by the AMA, or graduate of American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) approved Radiologist Assistant educational program

  • Current NYS license as a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Specialist Assistant as a Radiologic Assistant

  • Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners who are also licensed Radiological Technologists (not required) must maintain ARRT certification and a New York State license as a Radiological Technologist

  • Licensed Radiologic Assistants must possess and maintain ARRT certification in Radiography (R) and Radiologist Assistant (R.R.A.) and a New York State license as a Radiological Technologist

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience required

  • At least five (5) years of experience as an NP/PA in a procedural and/or vascular access setting

  • Two (2) - five (5) years of experience in training/education of Providers and/or establishing hospital policy and procedures

  • Infection Control Training certificate required

  • Affiliation with an Infusion Therapy organization and/or Radiological organization

  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills. Communication skills which may be inclusive of approach, tone of voice, speed of communication, respectfulness and non-verbal communication

  • Good standing with Medical Staff Office

  • Accomplished at establishing trust, developing strong working relationships with a range of audiences including executives and managers, physicians, and community professionals

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex physician relationships, interactions with medical leadership, formal and informal

  • Demonstrated physician collaboration in program development and implementation

  • Demonstrated ability to research, plan and execute

  • Strong critical thinking skills

  • Strategic planning and operations/infrastructure development

  • Strong financial, analytical and data analysis skills

  • Able to exhibit strong team-building, leadership, and visionary skills

  • Solid product development and product management experience

  • Ability to present and communicate well

  • Proficient utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software applications

  • Familiarity with information systems design/operation

  • Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with JCAHO, NYS DOH, MQSA and other applicable regulatory agencies

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking

  • Works in office area and patient rooms throughout the facility

  • Working hours are varied, works beyond normal working hours or weekend covering as necessary

  • Exposure to infectious diseases and uses appropriate personal protective equipment

  • Works in environment where ionizing radiation is produced
