POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting an Apprentice Instrumentation Technician to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6).  The Apprentice Instrumentation Technician will support the installation, testing, calibration, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation and control systems under the guidance of experienced technicians and engineers. This role involves hands-on learning and active participation in a variety of projects, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Shift 5:50-4:20 (4 days/week,10 hours/day). Overtime is as required

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

INSTRUMENTATION & ASSEMBLY (Weighting 40%) Tubing & Instrumentation Installation

  • Fabrication and installation of tubing

  • Fabricate and install tubing raceway

  • Mount and Install instruments

    Design

  • Skid layout using P&ID's, GA's

  • Work closely with other trades to optimize the design of units

    TESTING, CALIBRATION, & MAINTENANCE (Weighting 30%) Precision Testing

  • Test accuracy of flow meters, pressure gages, temperature indicators, controllers, and other recording, indicating, or controlling instruments.

  • Regularly calibrate instrumentation to ensure accurate readings and compliance with industry standards.

    Operational Integrity

  • Diagnose and repair faults in instrumentation and control systems to maintain operational efficiency.

  • Keep detailed records of all installation, testing, and maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

    COLLABORATION (Weighting 30%)                             Professional Conduct

  • Professional interaction with internal customers, vendors, customer representatives, inspectors.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

  • Adhere to safety protocols and regulations

    Continuous improvement & Development

  • Foster an environment of continuous improvement.

  • Participate in training programs: Engage in ongoing training and development to stay current with new technologies, standards, and best practices in instrumentation.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Instrumentation Technician Apprentice 3rd year or greater.

  • 2 years of industrial instrument construction/manufacturing experience.

  • Fabrication Shop experience and asset

  • Strong instrument and electrical troubleshooting skills.

  • Well organized, excellent communication skills, work well in a team environment.

  • Applicable tooling required
