Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Project Director for our Civil and Environmental Engineering Practice in Canada. This is a Full-time role. The person in this position will work on projects and develop opportunities that enhance our waste management and remediation engineering practice, with particular attention to waste management clients in Western Canada and federal clients North of 60. We are seeking a leader with major project delivery experience with proven ability to build and lead teams.

Experienced in waste management and project leadership, you will bring project management, engineering, sophisticated regulatory understanding, leadership skills, and an entrepreneurial spirit along with a keen interest in evolving and growing the business and mentoring staff.

Your demonstrated commitment to safety along with a strong operational understanding of safety risks in mining environments, and ability to mentor employees to support a safe work culture will supplement AECOM’s existing safety culture.

The Project Director will strategically support project managers and delivery teams from a senior advisory position and have responsibilities towards teams and projects, including:

  • Project and Program oversight as it relates to service delivery, including meeting or exceeding AECOM’s safety, quality, and financial expectations (amongst others).

  • Liaising with clients to monitor satisfaction and AECOM performance, and the development of client relationships at strategic levels within the organization.

  • Provision of project management and technical mentorship to AECOM staff, facilitating staff growth and continuous improvement opportunities.

Additionally, the Project Director will have technical responsibilities associated with project execution, including:

  • Collaborating with and coordinating multidisciplinary teams; development of work scopes, reviewing reports for regulatory submission (e.g., investigation reports, permit applications, management plans).

  • Oversight, execution and review of technical work plans and cost estimates; interpreting data; conducting remediation/closure technology evaluations and feasibility studies.

  • Development and growth of project teams to meet work commitments, internal business collaboration and administration.

AECOM notes that occasional visits to industrial work sites, including remote locations will be necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil or environmental engineering (civil, environmental etc.)

  • Registration, or ability for registration with as Registered Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta

  • 8+ years’ experience as an environmental consultant, industry representative, or regulator versed in solid waste management, environmental remediation, earthworks.

  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15 years+ experience in civil and/or environmental engineering with specific experience in waste management and/or large-scale environmental site remediation.

  • Experience with developing and preparing Design Packages for submittal and acceptance for technical clients and contractors.

  • Ability to prepare reports that present complex technical matter in a clear and concise manner.

  • Experience with general contractors and construction oversight.

  • Experience working in the Canadian North is viewed as a significant asset

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing work environment; excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills; conduct yourself with integrity, work within multi-disciplinary teams, deal with complex issues, and maintain effective working relationships.

  • Have a high level of initiative and enthusiasm.

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $117,000.00 - $164,000.00.
