District Animal Hospital & Urgent Care is currently welcoming a Medical Director to join our team. This is an exciting time to mentor DVMs and team members at a brand new hospital and be a part of an amazing team!

The MD’s primary role is to provide the medical leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure the highest quality of veterinary care is practiced and client education provided. The MD ensures that the veterinary medical teams are highly productive, efficient, and employ safe and effective hospital protocols. As a group, the leadership team is responsible for ensuring veterinary healthcare team engagement and sound financial performance. The Medical Director will be a member of the healthcare team who will maintain a regular scheduled clinical rotation.

  • A valid veterinarian license allowing practice in Canada

  • Collaborates with the leadership team to recruit and lead a high-performance team of veterinarians and technologists/technicians using effective leadership, coaching, and performance management practices and techniques;

  • Contributes towards the performance reviews of all team members, and leads Coach and Connect sessions with all veterinarians;

  • Coaches teams to educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care and other pet health needs;

  • Promotes the safety of pets, clients, and all team members by the use of safe restraining techniques, following standard protocols, and maintaining clean, and organized clinic facilities.

  • Develops and maintains written operational policies and procedures in conjunction with the leadership team and ensures the medical team follows the policies as set out in our Associate policies and procedures;

  • Provides coaching and support for all VCA Canada clinical programs and initiatives, and attends VCA Canada conferences and other continuing education as necessary;

  • Assists in the development and ongoing implementation of VCA Academy via coaching and support of hospital mentees.

  • In conjunction with the leadership team, manages any veterinary healthcare team performance or disciplinary issues.

  • Maintains effective relationships holds meetings with vendor partners and works to maximize support levels;

  • Provides support in determining and monitoring appropriate doctor productivity benchmarks, including any required seasonal adjustments;

  • Experience in; soft tissue surgical procedures, preventative care, and offering nutritional advice.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills in working with your colleagues, pet parents, and community

About the Hospital

Our new GP and urgent care hospital serve North Calgary and surrounding areas. This facility has the capacity to treat and care for patients scheduled for regular checkups or those in need of immediate medical attention. The District Animal Hospital has complete surgical and radiology facilities on site. In addition, the facility has ultrasound services, endoscopy, general dental services, and an on-site pharmacy.
