Actalent Research Portfolio Manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Job Title: Research Portfolio Manager

Job Description

The primary responsibilities of this role include proposal and budget development; interpretation of University and sponsor policies and guidelines for faculty members and their lab personnel; forecasting expenses and providing regular as well as ad hoc financial reports to the Department and faculty; reconciling faculty and lab research needs with the overall financial picture and making recommendations regarding spending rates. Additionally, the role involves monitoring accounts to ensure compliance with federal, University and/or sponsor regulations. Other duties entail acting as effort report coordinator; approving payments over certain dollar thresholds; training lab managers and other lab personnel on sponsored research policies and procedures; assisting in implementing policies at the department level and recommending process improvements; and helping to resolve issues related to research funding and related to migrating and/or transferring labs.

Hard Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Experience with NIH and NSF grant policies and Uniform Guidance

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel

  • Experience with financial systems/reporting applications (GMAS, OBI, PI Dashboard) preferred

Soft Skills

  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines

  • High degree of judgment to make sound decisions

  • Ability to handle sensitive information

  • Effective communication skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service

  • Willingness to take on additional tasks

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills

Job Type

This is a permanent position.

Work Site

This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in Cambridge, Massachusetts and some days remote.

Work Environment

In office, with some time remote. Community style work environment, with lots of extra events for celebrations and social interactions.
