POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Senior Designer, you will report to the Design and Drafting Supervisor. Perform various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, specifications, complex layouts, detailed drawings, P&IDs, and piping plans as part of a project team. Will have a significant amount of unsupervised field experience. This position requires little or no instruction or guidance from the Supervisor for day-to-day projects. Can take direction and detailed instructions for specific projects from customer representatives. Critical problems are solved in conjunction with the Supervisor and can review the work of others for the application of sound design practices and accuracy upon completion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Mentor other Designers/Drafters and review work packages as requested by supervisor.

  • Display advanced knowledge of the workflow from the beginning to end of all design processes of the projects.

  • Prepare complete design packages, which may include, but are not limited to, preliminary, conceptual, and construction deliverables, as well as engineering calculations.

  • Possess the willingness and the ability to self-manage workload.

  • Can read and comprehend Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).

  • Prepares involved/complex plans, sections, details, isometrics, and BOM, demonstrating design aptitude/ ability in conjunction with designers and/or supervisors to provide a complete construction package, having a professional appearance.

  • Utilizes AutoCAD® and CADWorx® software to prepare 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings adhering to company CAD and drafting standards.

  • Responsible for accurate back check of individual work against checked documents.

  • Travel and lead a team to project sites to document existing conditions or construction progress of P&IDs.

  • Display the ability to learn quickly and make discretionary decisions with Input from Key Individuals/Stakeholders.

  • Works with MPLX's Knowledge Management group and Operations to provide drafting resources and support of operational redline drawing updates.

  • Attends PHAs as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES:

  • Highschool Diploma Required

  • An Associate's Degree in drafting is preferred.

  • Must have an Expert understanding of walking down and redlining P&IDs.

  • Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of piping layout and design experience in the oil and gas industry, with the ability to independently manage and supervise some aspects of the design.

  • Must have Advanced knowledge of the following 2D and 3D software: AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, CADWorx Plant and P&ID, Isogen, Navisworks-Simulate and Manage, BlueBeam Revu.

  • Intermediate Knowledge of ASME B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8 codes and industry piping standards is required.

  • Must be a self-starter with initiative and a hard worker who can work independently and as a team member.

  • Have an advanced understanding of creating and editing specifications and catalogs using CADWorx Spec Editor.

  • Have advanced communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Can interpret engineering specifications and is aware of applicable codes, materials, and their impact on design.

  • Must be detail-oriented, precise, and organized in handling drawings.

  • Advanced organizational skills are required; must be able to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Intermediate laser scanning and point cloud drafting capabilities are a plus but not required.

  • Travel: 20% Require

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Technician Level 1 • Typically has less than 1 year of related experience • Understanding of red-to-black designs requiring minimal design skill Technician Level 2 • Typically has 1 or more years of related experience • Working knowledge of red-to-black designs and working on small design projects Technician Level 3 • Typically has 2 or more years of experience • Experience with medium-level design projects requiring highly-skilled design expertise Technician Level 4 • Typically has 4 or more years of experience • Experience with large design projects requiring advanced skills in design Technician Level 5 • Typically has 6 or more years of experience • Experience with large and very complex design projects requiring expert-level skills Technician Level 6 • Typically has 10 or more years of experience • Subject-matter expert and experience with large and complex design projects
