Joining the Vascular Access Team you will join a small close-knit team that serves all areas of the hospital! The VAT team is known as the experts and the go to resource for the hospital in vascular access management. You will join a developing Vascular Access Team placing PICCS, midlines and peripheral IC's. You will perform IV starts for inpatients, placing peripheral central lines on inpatients and outpatients.

There is a Full Time position working 3 - 12hr rotating shifts a week. Rotating weekends and holidays are required. No Call Required!

POSITION SUMMARY

This provides basic and advanced vascular access for patients, following accepted nursing practices, Banner Health policies and procedures, and physician's prescriptions. Provides consultation to clinicians regarding all aspects of vascular access.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Performs age appropriate nursing process within the scope of practice as defined by the respective State Board of Nursing. Assessments include physical, psychological, social, discharge and educational needs. Practice is evidence-based.

  2. Assesses patients for best vascular access options and collaboratively develops the best plan of care for the patient and family.

  3. Places Peripherally Inserted Central and Midline Catheters using Microseldinger Technique (MST). May support clinical staff with difficult peripheral intravenous catheters.

  4. Proficient in the use of ultrasound guidance and other technologic advancements to gain vascular access. Utilizes technology adjuncts with procedures, as indicated.

  5. Assists with vascular access troubleshooting and malfunctioning as needed.

  6. Documents all aspects of care on appropriate documentation forms.

  7. Serves as a facilitator of learning for patients, family, and colleagues. Coordinates and involves patient/family and other disciplines as needed in discharge planning.

  8. Demonstrates effective leadership. Serves as a member of Banner Health quality improvement teams. Collaboratively develops system-wide initiatives to help improve patient and family outcomes. Analyzes PICC-specific data to identify focus areas. Provides and utilizes evidence based practice in all patient encounters and actively participates in both nursing and general research.

  9. Works independently to provide excellent patient care. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers include patient family.

Must be licensed to practice professional nursing in the applicable state of practice.

Must have at least two years of acute care hospital experience. Must be proficient in vascular access options to patients across the lifespan (age 12 and older) and severity of illness. Must be proficient in performing basic insertion of vascular access devices. Demonstrates effective communication skills, problem solving and conflict resolution in the management of PICC lines, keeping the appropriate people informed.
