Assistant Director - Employer Relations
The Assistant Director of Employer Relations is responsible for developing and maintaining effective relationships with campus, local, regional, and national employers to increase the recruitment of students and graduates of Southern Utah University. The Assistant Director of Employer Relations will determine the staffing needs of employers and promote SUU's majors to employers via cold calls, mass mailings, off-site employer visits, social media, etc. This position will also oversee all on-campus recruitment events and the development of local part-time employment and internship opportunities for current SUU students. Additionally, this position will supervise students employed in the Career Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Establish and strengthen employer contacts through outreach activities such as cold calls, mass mailings, off-site employer visits, social media, etc. Schedule and conduct employer visits to determine hiring needs. Promote SUU's students and alumni as potential candidates for employment and internships. Maintain and update the Career Center's electronic database. Complete employer site visit forms and annual reports. Work with partner agencies and local officials to strategize a plan for increasing off-campus employment opportunities for current students.
• Supervise Career & Professional Development Center student workers by providing training to ensure employees are up to date on Graduate Questionnaires and Handshake directives, and give ongoing evaluations of employees performance.
• Coordinate On-Campus Recruiting with overseeing recruitment events to maximize attendance of both employers and students. Facilitate interviews and employer visits. Coordinate marketing efforts with Events and Marketing Coordinator for all on-campus recruiting events to ensure maximum participation.
• Develop and maintain relationships with SUU administration, deans, faculty, and staff to serve individual department needs, increase employer referrals, and increase employment and internship opportunities.
• Provide primary leadership to develop and carry out career-related fairs and events on campus by identifying the best strategies for carrying out career fairs on campus, providing workshops, developing partnerships with alumni, and overseeing classroom presentations on career related topics.
• Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with SUU Alumni and Community Relations with the purpose of accessing alumni for employment/internship opportunities and reconnecting alumni with current students.
• Carry out special assignments and projects from the Career & Professional Development Director.
• Cooperate with the Career Center Internship Coordinator to increase internship opportunities both on and off-campus.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum qualifications:
• 4 Year / Bachelors Degree
• A dynamic, professional demeanor with exceptional organization, written, and public speaking skills.
• Proven ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions.
• Proven ability to multitask.
• Exceptional time management skills.
• Exhibit a motivated/enthusiastic work style.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to work nontraditional work hours including evenings, holidays, and/or weekends as needed.
• Travel is necessary with occasional overnight stays.
Preferred qualifications:
• Three years of applicable work experience in a corporate/industry or university career services environment.
• Experience in marketing, negotiation, and strategic planning.F amiliarity with using electronic employer databases (experience using Handshake preferred).
• Experience working with employers from higher education or a business perspective.
• Previous experience working in Higher Education, preferably in Career Services/Center.
