While the full salary range for the Accountant I position is $25.20 - $37.81 hourly / $52,416.00 - $78,644.80 annually,the anticipated hiring range is $25.20 - $31.50 hourly / $52,416.00 - $65,520.00 annually. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under minimal supervision of the Sheriff's Office Department Finance Manager, this position performs a variety of technical accounting duties covering a broad range of accounting functions including general accounting, analysis, and reconciliations throughout assigned sections within the Sheriff's Office. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required: Performs technical and analytical duties required for the acquisition of equipment, services, and supplies. Performs a variety of tasks related to the development and monitoring of the Department's annual budget. Responsible for tracking contracts from inception to renewal to completion. Processes invoices for assigned sections including purchases, services, travel and business expense reimbursement requests, and purchasing card transactions. Distributes and reconciles petty cash. Tracks progress of fixed asset and CIP projects. Vehicle status is tracked from ordering to completed vehicle. Researches and responds timely to questions from vendors and from section staff regarding accounts payable, travel and business expenses and purchasing card related questions. Prepares accounting journal entries ensuring appropriate documentation and classification. Performs periodic monitoring and maintenance for purchase orders. Responsible for the year-end closing process for purchase orders. Performs limited financial analysis to assist with the preparation of financial reports. Prepares specified interim financial reports to assist management with tracking budgets, allocations, expenditures, and revenues. Runs reports and extracts data to assist with the compilation of financial reports and researches projects for the department, as requested. Enters, verifies, and maintains data within the budget and financial software systems and spreadsheets. Creates reports from the software systems to assist with the annual budget development, as well as periodic budget monitoring and cost projections. Serves as the primary contact for the assigned section for receiving and processing contracts within County policies. Maintains the contract database for accuracy including monitoring and updating information as changes occur. Assists with the preparation of the Board Summary Reports and prepares Resolutions. Provides assigned sections with weekly status reports regarding grants, contracts and other major activity. Assists with the preparation of materials for special projects. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of accounting principles and accounts payable practices. Knowledge of accounting office methods, practices, procedures and equipment. Intermediate working knowledge of Excel is required. Basic knowledge of various software applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Access, or similar. Ability to prepare and maintain financial analyses, reports, and files. Ability to analyze financial transactions and research and resolve issues related to the job and to vendors and section questions. Ability to use computerized accounts payable applications and personal computer software applications. Ability to communicate effectively with strong oral and written skills is required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County department staff, Sheriff's Office staff, supervisors, co-workers, and vendors. Ability to organize and prioritize work activities so that work is completed thoroughly, accurate y, and efficiently. Excellent time management skills are required. Ability to work both independently and as a team member, in an organized and productive manner, and able to assess workload to establish priorities and meet deadlines. Takes the initiative to propose changes to processes in order to improve accuracy/efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: High School graduate or GED Equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of accounting experience. Intermediate proficiency in Excel. OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience that satisfy the requirements of the job as approved by the Sheriff.

CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES: None.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

College level courses or Associate's Degree in Accounting or a related field. Experience in large financial systems such as SAP. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License. Must possess CPR and First Aid certification within the initial status period.
