What you’ll do:

The future of solar is happening here and now, and it’s your opportunity to shine! We’re looking to you to play a critical role in the development and support of leading-edge, industry-defining solar tracker components and more. You will be given design ownership of components and sub-systems helping to drive to lower cost, increase reliability, and increase application. Working with multiple levels of management, engineering, and other departments, you will create and select state-of-the-art technologies and products. You will utilize tools such as computer aided design (CAD), design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMEA), and failure modes and effects analysis (DFMEA). This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours. Some travel is required. As an electrical engineer on the sustaining team you will:

  • Take design responsibility for assigned components and sub-systems

  • Support alternate design exploration for cost reduction, quality improvement, or additional supply purposes

  • Support current and future product SCADA systems

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts on components and sub-systems

  • Respond to both internal and external customer requests for information

  • Develop system, assembly, and component level documentation: drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, instruction manuals, troubleshooting guides, etc.

  • Create Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) for electrical components and assemblies

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to deploy and test the control system, features, software, and electrical system at real solar sites; travel as necessary

  • Investigate and resolve failures of electrical / control-system components; travel as necessary

  • Participate in field troubleshooting and remediation of the product: component, assembly, and system/site level

  • Report the status of work regularly to the hiring manager and senior management

  • This role will require 10-15% domestic travel

  • Other duties as assigned

The qualifications you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering

  • 3+ years designing and/or supporting SCADA systems: configuration development and troubleshooting

  • 3+ years experience working in design, and test/measurement on analog and 24V Industrial I/O systems

  • 3+ years reading and creating schematics and wiring diagrams

  • 2+ years designing to or confirming design against NEC, UL, and IEC Code requirements

  • 2+ years experience using multimeter and oscilloscope during design validation or design troubleshooting

  • 2+ years designing and/or troubleshooting AC motor power and control systems

  • 2+ years of experience in designing or trouble shooting control systems using microcontrollers or PLCs; the candidate must be able to operate and trouble shoot the controller programming

  • 2+ years designing and/or troubleshooting wire management/cabling for multiple component systems

  • 2+ years of experience in working with distributed sensor communication

Our preferred qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in many of the required qualifications

  • Experience in running/troubleshooting system electric and control systems for solar trackers

  • Experience in developing motion control applications using DC or AC motors

  • Experience interfacing with Siemens S7 1200 PLCs

  • Experience with designing for required grounding and bonding

  • Willingness to learn new programming languages, new controller architectures, and new skillsets as needed for control system development and support
