Berkshire East Resort Bike Instructor in Charlemont, Massachusetts

Bike Instructor 66 Thunder Mountain Rd, Charlemont, MA, USA 16.00-30.00 per hour 16.00-30.00 - based on experience Hourly Seasonal Benefits include free use of facilities: Berkshire East, Zoar and Catamount, food and merchandise discounts, friends and family vouchers Provide mountain bike instruction, guiding and hospitality to guests riding Thunder Mountain Bike Park. Position begins mid May and ends in mid November. Candidates with experience coaching mountain biking, instructing similar sports or classroom teaching are preferred, but are not required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Orientate guests on the bike trail system and bike park guidelines. Teach novice to advanced skills to guests of all ages and ability. Enforce risk management protocols and teach guests about the Bikers Responsibility Code. Be an ambassador for the bike park and generate return clientele. Attend professional development training. Educate riders on the proper use of personal protection gear. Recognize equipment flaws or inadequacies and recommend solutions. Lead guests to progress their skills while still remaining in control. Report trail damage or features that need maintenance to the appropriate manager. Perform necessary trail maintenance work when asked. Assist staff with large bike events; (races, clinics, group outings etc.). Administer basic first aid to guests when necessary. Assist with routine maintenance of rental bikes & gear. Assist with bike rentals when necessary. Perform other tasks as assigned by the manager. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities): Skilled in providing outstanding customer service. First Aid & CPR certification required. Preferred to have completion of BICP or PMBIA instructor course, Level 1, 2 or 3. Understand calculated risk and how it varies from person to person. Prior riding experience on technical mountain bike terrain. Experience in leading, guiding or instructing. A willingness to progress one\'s own riding and teaching. Adhere to company procedures for maintaining a safe worksite. Create a safe, fun and educational atmosphere. Facilitate amazing field experiences with our guests. Basic bike maintenance skills such as safety checks, changing a flat and tightening a headset etc. Core Competencies: Decision Making: Use sound judgment to make good decisions. Physical Demands: This is a physically demanding position. Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 60 lbs. Must be able to stand, bend, climb, lift, reach, push and pull repetitively. Must be mentally attentive and focused at all times. Must be able to adapt to climate and work in extreme weather conditions. Shift Requirements: Hours may be long, including early morning through early evening. Frequent weekend and holiday shifts. Age Requirements: Applicants must be at least age 17. 16 year-olds may apply as a junior instructor. Those 17 and under must provide a MA work permit if hired. Other Requirements: Cori background check required prior to being hired. You must supply your own equipment; bike, helmet, goggles, pads, shoes and repair tools. Instructors must own a full face helmet
