Child Life Specialist Needed for Spaulding

Summary

Plan, design, implement and evaluate therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients’ psychosocial and developmental needs and facilitate adjustments to health care experiences. Delegate and oversee work of assistive personnel and participate in clinical training of student interns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Therapeutic programs and activities are planned, developed and evaluated per professional and departmental standards.

  • Activities and programs are conducted to help the individual or group of patients adjust to their health care experience.

  • Supplies and equipment are evaluated and selected to meet patient and budgetary needs.

  • Patient care rounds, conferences and family team meetings are attended to assist in planning of care to meet patient and family needs.

  • Patients, parents, and siblings are educated regarding the impact of hospitalization and therapeutic role of daily activities.

  • Documentation is completed per departmental guidelines.

  • Education is provided for program personnel to effectively address therapeutic needs of patients and families.

  • Additional department, organization, or network activities are completed per established objectives.

Qualifications

Education/Degree

Required

  • Bachelors Degree in Child Life, Child Development or a closely related field.

Experience

Required

  • Minimum one year work experience in a hospital based or rehabilitation setting as a Child Life Specialist.

Licensure/Certification

Required

  • Current certification as a Child Life Specialist.

Skills (Specific learned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills, keyboarding, presentation, CPR, ACLS, etc.)

Required

  • Demonstrated ability to provide positive patient satisfaction.

  • Safely execute all job responsibilities without risking injury to self or patients. Demonstrates the ability to assess and interact with patients and families using the theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural background.

  • Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.

Preferred

  • Highly developed communications and interpersonal skills, working with diverse population.

  • Work independently, be self-directed and contribute as a member of a team.

  • Anticipates challenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them.

  • High level of service delivery. Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.

  • Attention to detail.
