CEENTA Auditory Verbal Therapist- SouthPark Office in Charlotte, North Carolina

CEENTA is looking for an experienced Speech Language Pathologist with experience in auditory verbal therapy. The Auditory Verbal Therapist will provide high-quality diagnostic and intervention audio verbal therapy to children and adults with hearing loss.

This position works onsite to support our patients at our SouthPark location Monday through Friday.

Primary Objective

The Auditory Verbal Therapist is fully integrated into the clinical workflow of children and adults with hearing loss and cochlear implant recipients.

Essential Functions

  • Provide high-quality diagnostic and intervention AVT to patients with hearing loss.

  • Educate and counsel patients and families on treatment plan and progress.

  • Develop individualized therapy plan for patients.

  • Provide referrals for other services when necessary.

  • Communicate regularly with members of the clinical care team including audiologists, otolaryngologists, outside therapists, teachers and pediatricians.

  • Patient evaluation using standardized assessments.

  • Ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the position.

  • The ability to work on-site.

  • Predictable, reliable, and prompt attendance.

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience working with children who are deaf and hard of hearing.

  • Experience working with both pediatric and adult cochlear implant recipients.

  • Knowledge of the cochlear implant process and stages of auditory skill development after implantation.

  • Multi-cultural competency to create a diverse learning environment and to work effectively with patients and families from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to appropriately document evaluations and therapy appointments.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Knowledge of billing practices for auditory-verbal therapy services.

  • Experience working with unilateral hearing loss cochlear implant recipients.

Clinical Competencies

  • Ability to operate appropriate equipment to perform AVT procedures.

Training Period

The training period will cover training with Epic, CEENTA’s policies and procedures and software and devices.  Depending on training availability, training will be approximately one month.

The Auditory Verbal Therapist directly impacts CEENTA’s ability to achieve its mission as they play an integral role in patient care delivery by providing high quality, safe, effective and compassionate care and treatment services to patients. 

Education

Master’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders from an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association accredited program.

Experience

  • Prior experience as an AVT preferred, preferably with children and adults.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  •  Certificate of Clinical Competence for Speech-Language-Pathologists (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

  • Listening and Spoken Language Specialist Certified Auditory-Verbal Therapist (LSLS Cert. AVT) preferred, those near completion of certification will be considered.

Supervision

The AVT reports to the Director, Imaging & Audiology. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, normal CEENTA business hours. Hours are subject to variation based upon clinic needs.

Physical and Mental Requirements

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to spend approximately 20% of the workday standing and walking with guiding patients to and from waiting areas and doctor exam rooms and standing while using the Audiology lab area.

  • Ability to spend approximately 80% of the workday sitting for periods of time while in patient appointments and completing admin work.

  • Ability to occasionally provide help transporting patients in wheelchairs to appropriate Audiology areas with the ability to push at least 140 lbs.

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to problem solve and provide appropriate recommendations for patient care.

  • Ability to be flexible while maintaining a provider’s schedule.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to have sensitivity and discretion while providing hearing services to patients.

  • Ability to always maintain a professional demeanor.

Travel

Travel to applicable CEENTA clinic locations as required.
