Lowe's Principal Engineer - Network Security in Charlotte, North Carolina

Your Impact

The Principal Network Security Engineer leads the implementation and evolution of network security tools and processes for complex enterprise scenarios. This role provides expert consultation, ensuring network security solutions align with industry best practices and company strategies. Responsibilities include resolving architectural deficiencies, informing Technology strategy, and driving critical security decisions. As a subject matter expert, you will support cross-team initiatives, mentor team members, and influence technical and leadership decisions across multiple technology towers. Although not managing people directly, you will develop, train, and review the work of others.

What You Will Do

  • Drive the creation and execution of strategic roadmap initiatives.

  • Provide expert recommendations and input on options, risks, costs, and benefits for network security solution designs and identify specific interfaces and methods required to support solutions.

  • Provide consultation on business requirements, functional specifications, and the development of new and existing network security solutions, ensuring alignment with industry best practices, strategies, and architectures.

  • Lead efforts to develop standard operating procedures; identify and incorporate procedure improvements based on best practices and industry trends.

  • Provide expertise in troubleshooting and resolving significantly complex or endemic problems in the network security space.

  • Review the development or modification of highly complex, enterprise-level network security solutions.

  • Drive operational excellence practices across the organization for network security.

  • Mentor and advise others, sharing an in-depth understanding of company and industry methodologies, policies, standards, and controls.

  • Facilitate cross-functional (security, technology, business) teams to solve complex problems.

  • Help with the technical development, configuration, or modification of security solutions and technologies and resolve compliance, operational, architectural, process, or design deficiencies.

  • Serve as a network security expert for project teams throughout the implementation and maintenance of business and enterprise software solutions.

  • Develop tools or processes to operationalize and improve workflows.

  • Provide input into departmental budget forecasting and allocation decisions.

  • Maintain an awareness of network security news and trends.

  • Lead activities to assess adherence to the network security processes supported.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, CIS, Engineering, Business Administration, Cybersecurity, or related field (or equivalent work or military experience in a related field).

  • 10 years of experience in network security.

  • Proven subject matter expertise in large, complex matrixed network environments.

  • Experience with physical and virtualized network equipment such as firewalls, switches, routers, SDWAN, SASE, VPN, and ZTNA solutions.

  • Experience with on-prem data centers, offices, colocated hosting services such as Equinix, and all major cloud services such as AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI.

  • Advanced expertise in Infrastructure as Code strategies, experience with Terraform and Ansible, and other automated code deployment systems for infrastructure.

  • Advanced understanding of network and security concepts (network communication rules, perimeter protection principles, intrusion detection and analysis methods, etc.).

  • Intermediate level of understanding of software development and paradigms around VM, Container, and Serverless computing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCIE, CCNP Security, FCX, PCNSE, CISM, CEH, GSEC, CCSP, or other relevant advanced network and security certifications.

  • IT experience in the retail industry.

  • Highly experienced in understanding the output from cybersecurity scanning technologies, including operating systems, custom code, web-based vulnerability analysis, 3rd party installed and hosted applications, cloud-hosted compute platforms, and microservices.

  • Highly experienced with network security concepts related to Threat and Vulnerability Management, system architecture, and Internet technology.

  • Experience developing Cybersecurity or information assurance policies, standards, awareness training, or equivalent issuances.

  • Experience conducting assessments or technical reviews to analyze risk.

  • Experience with information security programs, audits, controls, risk assessments, and remediation management.

  • Experience conducting information security risk assessments of vendors and vendor software.

  • Experience with process management methodologies such as Six Sigma or ITIL Delivery methodologies (Agile, Scrum, SAFe).

Pay Range for CA, CO, HI, NJ, NY, WA: $142,400.00 - $270,600.00 annually Starting rate of pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, position offered, location, education, training, and/or experience.
