University of Virginia Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture, Practice Track in Charlottesville, Virginia

The University of Virginia School of Architecture (http://www.arch.virginia.edu/) is seeking qualified applicants for a part time General Faculty Position as a Non-Tenure Track Professor in Practice, to join the Landscape Architecture faculty and participate in its innovative teaching and creative activity. The Department is committed to supporting individual Faculty agendas in Practice that address pressing social, cultural, and ecological issues through the medium of landscape. In recent years, the School of Architecture has undergone a series of transformations to maintain our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and to continuing our tradition in design excellence and craft. Recently renovated studio and fabrication facilities (https://www.arch.virginia.edu/about/studios-labs-spaces) provide state of the art facilities for computation and fabrication and collaborative research. The School supports a robust research agenda through individual faculty projects and within the Center for Cultural Landscapes (https://www.arch.virginia.edu/ccl) , the Arctic Design Group, (https://www.arch.virginia.edu/research/arctic-design-group) the Natural Infrastructure Lab , Morven Farms (https://morven.virginia.edu/) , and the Milton Land Lab. (https://www.arch.virginia.edu/about/miltonlandlab) The University of Virginia encourages multidisciplinary partnerships, and the department is currently engaged in funded research with collaborators in environmental science, engineering, computer science, and public health.

Applicants should be accomplished practitioners with the ability to teach graduate landscape design studios in addition to required and elective coursework in Ecology and Technology with an emphasis on planting design and landscape maintenance. In addition to design excellence, we seek applicants who will participate in cross-disciplinary curricular initiatives and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in landscape architecture in relation to the other design arts, humanities, and sciences through their creative work and/or practice. A Professor of Practice at UVA is expected to teach, develop curriculum in collaboration with School leadership, serve on academic committees, and practice in the discipline of landscape architecture.

Candidates will be appointed at the appropriate rank as Professor of Practice (NTT) and must show potential to develop or show evidence of excellence in teaching and service to the University and discipline. Applicants to the position are individuals in practice that are interested in pursuing a body of creative practice in a part-time position as a Professor of Practice (NTT).

Successful candidates for these positions will have a terminal degree in Landscape Architecture (MLA) or equivalent practice experience as well as prior teaching experience and/or an advanced degree in an area of specialization.
