University of Virginia Phlebotomy Trainee - Earn While You Learn Program in Charlottesville, Virginia

The UVA Earn While You Learn Trainee Program provides structured coursework and paid on-the-job-training as a full-time, benefitted employee. Phlebotomists collect quality specimens for laboratory analysis and perform a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of Medical Center professionals in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

Minimum requirements are a high school diploma or GED; no experience is required. Position Compensation: $15.00/hour + benefits

You will be paid a total of 40 hours/week. All course and certification fees will be paid for by UVA Health in return for 1 year FULL-TIME commitment as an employee at UVA Health once course is completed.

Phlebotomy Trainee - Earn While You Learn Program

  • Performs blood collection using a variety of techniques to ensure minimal discomfort to the patient.

  • Provides a high standard of customer service while maintaining workflow.

  • Verifies patient identification in accordance with Medical Center Policy with any intervention.

  • Collects laboratory specimen with accuracy and timeliness as indicated by ordering and lab testing priorities.

  • Documents all information related to specimens collected in accordance with departmental policy.

  • Assist with specimen processing and handling in accordance with policy and procedure.

  • Assist with entering lab orders in the electronic information systems.

  • Assist with quality assurance functions and compliance.

  • Adheres to Standard Precaution procedures.

  • Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of institution’s fire/emergency/infection control programs.

  • Performs administrative support functions.

  • Completes supply stocking, inventory and ordering as directed.

  • Maintains necessary skills and competencies.

  • Identifies strengths and opportunities for professional development and goals for self-improvement.

  • Completes annual mandatory training activities and regulatory in-service requirements with-in established timeframes.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Position Compensation Range: -

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Experience: No experience required.

Licensure: No licensure/certifications are required to apply to this role.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires frequent walking, bending and stooping, prolonged standing; repetitive motion: extension and flexion at wrist; proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull < 20lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
