Your role

CBC PEI is looking for a Supervising Technician to support our production requirements and programming goals. In this position you will have various responsibilities including: supervising of the Broadcast Technologist & Resource Specialist, ensuring all technical facilities are in good working order and staff are properly trained to work in them, daily management and arrange scheduled maintenance of our fleet vehicles, technical support and troubleshooting (remote and in-house productions), equipment co-ordination, training and researching new equipment.

You will provide oversight to a technical budget coordinated by our regional Operations Manager, our regional Financial manager, and the on-site Sr. Manager.

As the Supervising Technician, you provide specialized technical and production guidance, by leading and motivating employees, and by undertaking the overall technical coordination for programs, areas or projects in Audio and Video. Creative problem solving is required to overcome operational difficulties, to assess and optimize the use of resources.

Key Tasks:

  • Maintain familiarity with technical facilities and production workflows and any associated equipment.

  • Provide assistance and advice on operational requirements in terms of equipment, facilities and personnel and procedures, create written documentation on equipment and workflows.

  • Within delegated limits, plans, assigns, schedules, coordinates and checks the work of assigned staff and offers input on matters related to job performance, conduct and safety.

  • Coordinates training of new operational and support staff and advises management on their progress.

  • Verifies the accuracy of time reports and work performed for supervised employees .

  • Undertakes reviews of the operations, operating procedures, technical standards and maintenance activities. Submits recommendations for improvements or modifications.

  • Recommends safety procedures. Plans and maintains safety measures and programs for personnel, property and equipment.

  • Within delegated authority and in consultation with the supervisor, provides day to day oversight of our fleet. (13 vehicles).

  • Purchasing of non-capital replacement equipment & supplies as needed.

  • Purchases and supports mobile cellular devices for all staff.

  • Is the first point of contact with our building maintenance representative from BGIS.

  • Works alongside Support staff in repairing/maintaining technical equipment when needed.

  • Works alongside Support staff in providing Desktop support to staff.

As assigned or required, may perform any or all of the following tasks:

  • Within delegated limits, hire staff for casual requirements.

  • Provide specialized assistance and provide leadership and support to members of our technical team.

  • Provide input to the budget process.

  • Participate in the selection and evaluation of new staff.

  • Performs all or part of the function or duties of equivalent or lower classifications.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:

  • Diploma/Certificate from a Community college or Technical program in Radio or Television arts courses, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Requires a superior knowledge and understanding of radio or television program production and presentation methods. This includes understanding how different areas interrelate.

  • Requires a good understanding of IP based systems and server support.

  • Minimum 4 years directly related experience.
