GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

The Clinical Operations Coordinator, Gen Radiology performs the duties of the Radiology Technologist. The Coordinator is also responsible for the assisting with the day-to-day operation of the Gen Radiology Department, locally or system wide. The Coordinator works closely with Administrative and Physician leadership to maintain efficient and effective operations, insure quality and promote change. The Clinical Operations Coordinator, Gen Radiology also with the Education Coordinator, Gen Radiology to develop and maintain educational programs for the Gen Radiology staff. The Coordinator provides supervision and direction to the staff. The Coordinator interacts and works collaboratively with other departments. The Coordinator is patient focused, seeking to provide excellent patient experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist program and registered as a Radiographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

• Maintain Continuing Education credits (24 CEU in two period) and other requirements to maintain ARRT certification.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

• Two years as a Radiologic Technologist preferred

• Must have good working knowledge of anatomy and understanding of the principles of physics, electricity, variations of anatomical postures – supine, prone, etc.

• Must know methods of exposure to obtain clearly defined films and to set up and operate equipment, with an emphasis on reduction in patient radiation dose (ALARA – As Low As Reasonably Achievable).

• Must be very conscientious and detail oriented person with excellent communication skills and demonstrate excellent customer service skills to deal effectively with patients, and various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers, and community groups

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

  1. Assists department management in interviewing, hiring, orienting, evaluating, training and counseling Radiographers/Technologist in an assigned area.

  2. Oversees the day-to-day patient care activities of an assigned area by assuring adequate staffing.

  3. Schedules, plans and assigns duties of staff to meet patient care requirements, and participates in staff meetings.

  4. Assures the quality of diagnostic imaging procedures by utilizing equipment, other available resources, technique and protocol to identify problems and evaluate services.

  5. Takes appropriate corrective actions to resolve problems.

  6. Works in cooperation with other coordinators to assist and direct the Radiographers/Technologists in completing all requested work appropriately and in a timely and orderly manner.

  7. Regularly performs a variety of routine and complex diagnostic imaging procedures as a Radiographers/Technologists.

  8. Ensures that all Radiographers/Technologists are following the institutions Radiation Safety Policy.

  9. Oversees and ensures proper treatment of patients while in department and ensures that incident reports on any injuries sustained in department are completed.

  10. Monitors and immediately reports equipment in need of repair to appropriate personnel.

  11. May make recommendations for purchase of new equipment and maintenance of existing equipment, and ensures an adequate inventory of supplies.

  12. Instructs students and new staff member in clinical imaging procedures and serves as resource to Radiographers/Technologist.

  13. Practices sterile, isolation and aseptic techniques to prevent contamination and maintains documentation of infection control procedures and activities.

  14. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches-conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.

  15. Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

  16. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

  17. Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, developmental and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.

  18. Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Health System.

  19. Performs other duties as assigned

Works with the clinical instructor and department management to develop educational programs as needed.
