As a senior Multi-Cloud Runtime Platform Engineer, you’ll apply specialized knowledge of container, Kubernetes and public/private cloud infrastructure design & operation, to assist with the development and onward operation of a multi-cloud runtime platform supporting Siemens’ Xcelerator SaaS program.

This position makes significant contributions towards the delivery DevOps solutions that support best-in-class cloud based microservice applications. You’ll be a senior member of a dynamic, cross-functional, geographically dispersed team, working with subject matters experts from Infrastructure engineering & architecture, software engineering, DEVOPS, security, networks, firewalls, computing & storage to deliver a global, powerful, scalable, cost efficient, highly available platform that meets the changing needs of the business.

As an experienced infrastructure and cloud DevOps engineer & lead, you will have responsibilities in defining, planning, implementing, and operating automated infrastructure and processes at scale. You will create and maintain PaaS environments that meet service level agreement; support the resource requirements of the development, QA, and customer value realization teams; enable CI/CD; meet compliance and best practice standards; and are well documented. You will lead, proof of concept and first of a kind activity to validate product concepts.

Recognized by peers as a strong collaborator. Must excel in a team environment that changes with new technology adoption and evolving customer requirements. Works with some supervision on the most complex projects and desires to obtain complete latitude for independent judgment. Has excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Provide engineering leadership to a global platform team that's tasked with building, operating & maintaining a global, highly scalable and optimized Multi-cloud runtime platform, focusing initially on container runtime but advancing to other backing services (databases, caching, message queues etc).

Develop and maintain highly scalable, efficient, performant & resilient capabilities, meeting availability targets of 99.99%.

Leverage your advanced experience of Public and Private cloud environments and container runtime environments, working with other specialists of Networks, Firewall, Security, computing & storage technologies to develop, operate and support the platform.

Using Infrastructure As Code (IAC) and coding (Python, Go) best practices, create automated infrastructure within AWS, Azure, on on-premise environments, including package management, application load/configuration, API development, systems monitoring and administration.

Implement and maintain CI/CD tools, services, processes to support development, QA, and customer value realization teams.

Strong leadership of technical and organizational strategic planning, design, implementation, and operations. Extensive experience of working with PaaS Architects to develop best in class PaaS solutions.

Deliver improvements to source code management, deployment, operations, maintenance, cost control, security, monitoring, and audit tools and processes.

Constantly strive to reduce toil and deliver capabilities that enable Siemens DISW to maintain competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Drive security & operational best practice across the team, ensuring platform meets compliance requirements for ISO27001, SOC2, GDPR, PII and other regulatory or legislative requirements.

Ensure the production environment is operating in accordance with established procedures and best practices. Provide escalated support for high severity and critical network events.

Provide thought leadership, coaching & mentorship to the platform teams, fostering a positive enjoyment working environment and enabling the team to excel in their field.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience.

Bachelor’s Degree

Technical Leadership of PAAS, IAAS or Software Development team, driving business outcomes and influencing business direction, systems & culture.

Advanced working knowledge with Amazon Web Services (AWS) services: ECS, EKS, S3, VPC, Lambda, Networking, IAM at advanced level

Advanced working knowledge with networking and security threat models

Advanced programing & scripting - Python, Go, sh/bash

Advanced working knowledge of LINUX OS and open source ecosystem

Advanced working knowledge with system automation of highly scalable environments

Advanced system administration experience, including troubleshooting, support, mentorship/training and oversight

Advanced knowledge of design & implementation of GitOps processes

Ability to adopt and extend continuous integration and testing processes, GitLab-CI experience preferred

Ability to manage goals, track milestones and report on status

Advanced working knowledge automation tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Jenkins ..)

Working Knowledge of Cloud monitoring tools: e.g. CloudWatch, Cloud ability, or equivalent
