Caterpillar is looking to hire an engineer to design Work Tools, such as mining buckets and drilling tools. The candidate should be able to work in an interdisciplinary team to design Work Tools by collating ideas and making decisions using first principle thinking. The candidate must be willing to work on a wide variety of product development tasks such as design, simulation, testing, manufacturing, supplier collaboration, DFMEA etc. The job role includes (but not limited to) the below:

Design Work tools based on the voice of customer/engineering requirements & standards. Refine and improve product designs by conducting investigations and developing solutions. Use geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) to determine the tolerances of key components. Perform design/test/simulation DOE to determine critical influencing parameters. Transform test data/simulation data in a format that enables data-driven decision making.

Educational requirements:

B.E. / B. Tech. in Mechanical engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited engineering college with 0 to 5 years of engineering design experience M.E. / M. Tech in Mechanical engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited engineering college with 0 to 3 years of engineering design experience

Mandatory requirements:

Strong in first principle thinking, data-driven decision making and should have clarity of thought. Good communication skills – should be able to explain & present his/her ideas to global teams. Excellent understanding of engineering basics (mechanics, dynamics, GD&T) Motivated to work on design concepts, parametric CAD modelling and basic simulations (FEA / multi-body dynamics etc.)

Preferred requirements

Experienced in fabricated structures design and multi-body dynamics simulation. Experienced in product development. Understanding of metallurgy/material science, heat treatment and wear mechanics Worked on engineering calculations and mathematical modelling.

Tools:

CAD (any industry-standard CAD tool) Data analytics (Excel / Minitab / Power BI or equivalent) Analysis & simulation (Ansys / Creo simulate / Matlab / ADAMS or equivalent)
