McDermott Piping Designer in Chennai, India
Job Overview:
The Piping Designer provides solutions to problems in the Piping Design discipline without supervisory approval and will evaluate and select solutions from established operating procedures and scientific procedures.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Perform Design and engineering process facilities with a moderate degree of supervision and within a specified time while adhering to maintenance, safety, and quality standards, consider constructability, economics, and operation into account during Pre-FEED, FEED, or Detailed Design phases
Develop 3D Models and ensure clash free model in coordination with all other disciplines' requirements
Apply basic technical skills and knowledge to complete assigned work
Continue developing skills to efficiently complete repetitive tasks
Set priorities, organize own work and time to meet objectives and deadlines set by Lead Piping Designer
Keep the Lead / Principal/ Senior Designer appraised of all activities, progress, and concerns
Support Lead / Principal/ Senior Piping Designer in 3D Model Reviews and provide sufficient information to close the Review comments
Become familiar with the Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and inter-discipline requirements, including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issue
Identify changes to scope and promptly notify the Lead Piping Designer/ Engineer
Develop Plant Design and 3D Modelling, and discipline deliverables including Plot Plan, Isometric, and Pipe support drawings in accordance with the agreed Scope of Work, man-hours, and schedule
Capture Lessons learned and enter them in the McDermott System
Attend Design Review meetings, Vendor meetings
Ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with McDermott requirements, Client and Statutory Design Codes, Standards, or Procedures with particular focus on Health and Safety Policies
Reports to:
Project: Lead Piping Designer
Functional: Supervising Design or Department Manager
Liaise with: Designers and Engineers, other Engineering disciplines’ designers
Supervises: May be required to assist or provide guidance to trainee designers
Essential Qualifications and Education:
High School graduate with a diploma in Mechanical Design, or Drafting in a related discipline or equivalent experience
3 years minimum experience working with a major contractor or consultant
Knowledge of Auto lisp Programming, 3D Model creation, Menu and/or Macro compilation skills would be an advantage
Flexible for business traveling
Good knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D CAD system including E3D or SP3D
Familiar with the associated local regulatory environment and international and national industry standards and specifications
Use communication skills to exchange ideas and information effectively
Expand skills and knowledge via performing a variety of activities and maintaining appropriate licenses, training, and /or certificates as needed
