Purpose of Role:

The Legal Counsel assists the Senior Counsel in all areas covered by Marex's Legal Department in North America and develops into areas of greater responsibility; starting in the areas of efficiently onboarding clients and revenue-related relationships from a legal perspective.

The Legal Department supports functional areas across Marex with timely, focused, practical legal services.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and negotiate contracts supporting multiple business lines including but not limited to: prime brokerage, ISDA, OTC swaps documentation, securities lending, repo, and futures products.

  • Interpret and advise on new and existing vendor agreements, amendments, and terminations.

  • Support ongoing company-wide contracting initiatives, including third-party risk management, policy development, template standardization and adoption of contract related technologies.

  • Provide support to senior counsel with regulatory inquiries, discovery management, and subpoena responses.

  • Assess legal risks and collaborate with internal groups and advise managers, senior leaders, and operational teams on legal matters

  • Offer counsel on a variety of legal issues and collaborate with both internal and external counsel as needed.

  • Support HR and Compliance on internal corporate investigations.

  • Effectively report the status of areas of responsibility on a regular basis to relevant internal stakeholders.

  • Monitor developments in relevant legal areas in North America and proactively identify legal concepts that Business Partners need to understand and apply into practice.

  • Distil complex legal issues into workable frameworks or reference guides for Business Partners.

  • Collaborate and influence stakeholders through oral and written communications.

  • Work on special projects related to employment law, which could include areas outside of the North America jurisdiction.

  • Collaborate on and contribute to other projects within the Legal Department as needed

  • Ensuring compliance with the company's regulatory requirements under the SEC, FINRA, NFA, CFTC and other applicable exchanges.

  • Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role ensuring that all regulatory or company determined parameters are complied with.

Skills & Experience

  • JD (Juris Doctor) or LLM (Masters of Laws) from an accredited US law school and admission to a state bar is required

  • At least one to three years' (1-3 years) experience working in a financial services environment, may include internship time at a relevant regulatory agency.

  • Prior work experience as a paralegal in a corporate practice group in a law firm setting, in-house corporate legal department, or relevant business experience highly would be beneficial.

  • Demonstrated interest in working in a financial services law.

  • Exposure to hedge funds, mutual funds, and managed accounts is a plus.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of the risk and compliance requirements associated with this.
