BSD MED - Infectious Diseases - Chicago Center HIV Elimination - Implementation Research

About the Department

This role will be housed in central Illinois, specifically Springfield, IL to support projects off campus in rural sites, but will be embedded as part of the research programming for The Chicago Center of HIV Elimination (CCHE). The CCHE is located within the University of Chicago\'s main campus. The CCHE collaborates with multiple partners across the state, including community-based organizations, local health departments and jails to implement research on HIV, hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases, and COVID-19, particularly in vulnerable populations including people who use drugs in rural areas and those with criminal legal experience. Annual travel to Chicago may be required for initial onboarding and project retreats

Job Summary

The Research Specialist will assist the PI and the Research Coordinators with day-to-day operations of funded projects that involve working with people who use drugs. The candidate will report to the Manager of Implementation Research. Funded projects include harm reduction interventions for substance use and overdose prevention, linkage to primary care, substance use treatment, and infectious disease screening and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting recruitment, screening for eligibility, consenting community members.
  • Delivering assessments, interventions, controls.
  • Supporting data entry and analysis.
  • Assist with the development of study implementation protocols.
  • Offering referrals to service programming when appropriate.
  • Conducting literature reviews and support manuscript and grant writing.
  • Depending on skill set, may engage in data management and analysis.
  • Support evening and weekend events for when research is requested on site.
  • Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • May assist recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Is developing skills in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in a related field.

Experience:

  • Experience in harm reduction and/or substance use.
  • Experience working in research field.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Applications, including but not limited to Outlook, MS Office, & Access.
