Indian Health Service Intermediate Care Technician GS06-07 in Chinle, Arizona

Summary The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Licensed Paramedic or a Certified EMT to provide advanced and intermediate emergency medical care. This position is located at Chinle Service Unit (CSU), Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF), Division of Nursing Services (DNS), Nursing Administration, Patient Transport Program, Chinle, Arizona. NOTE: This position is being announced concurrently with announcement IHS-24-CH-12234287-ESEP/MP for candidates at the GS-08 grade level, please review vacancy announcement for eligibility requirements. Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered for each grade level. Conducting and carrying a wide variety of health care to a wide diversity of people and clients. Educating patients identified diagnosed as high risk for variety of health conditions. Assisting with behavioral/psychiatric situations to include crisis intervention, management of aggressive or suicidal psychiatric patients, and one-to-one observations. Administering Oxygen, IV fluids, Nebulized medications, limited oral medications, Intramuscular medication and immunization vaccines as ordered by a physician. Transporting patients varying from stable to critically ill patients to and from the airport. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR A licensed Paramedic and/or Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is required. (You must provide a copy of your license and/or certification along with your resume). AND BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assessing ambulatory patients, obtaining patient health history, operating specialized medical equipment, collecting specimen, responding to medical emergencies, transporting patient, providing good customer service, and documenting patient evaluation into electronic health record. GS07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Educating patients, evaluating patients for emergency medical conditions, performing triage, taking vital signs, documenting all care provided while transport, picking up non-emergency patients, and completing preventative maintenance checklist on transport vehicles OR One full year of graduate education Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education There are no education requirements. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. If an exemption is approved then wearing a face mask and regular testing for COVID-19 will be required. Your Human Resources Specialist will provide a list of documents acceptable as vaccination proof and instructions on how to submit your vaccination documentation or how to request a medical or religious exemption, if needed. Additional selection(s) of candidates may be possible within 240 days from the date the certificate of eligibles was issued for this announcement. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Government housing is available upon availability. There are no incentives offered. Incumbent is required to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. Incumbent will provide patient care services to individuals for services provided by the IHS, in clinics, schools, and other community locations within the assigned service unit. Incumbent will provide direct patient care services to individuals for services provided by IHS in the event of mass casualty and in any emergency situation where all licensed health professionals are required to perform direct patient care services. The Privacy Act carries both civil and criminal penalties for unlawful disclosure of records. Violations of such confidentiality shall be cause for adverse progressive disciplinary action. This position has promotion potential to the GS-08 grade level. Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your demonstrated ability to perform the higher level duties, the continuing need for the higher level duties, and "Regulatory/Administrative" approval.
