Citigroup Vice President, Legal Support Lead Officer in Chiyoda, Japan

The Legal Support Lead Officer is a senior level, non-attorney role, responsible for providing legal support to the Citi Legal team. This role requires a pragmatic, proactive professional with thorough understanding of the Citi Legal Team. The overall objective of this role is to provide support to the Legal Team.

In this role, you’re expected to:

  • In charge of legal support activities related to legal operations, litigation/discovery/settlements or negotiation and contract administration.

  • Manages the execution, review, processing and tracking of legal documentation and records, executes transactions and completes varied work requests from multiple sources that may be complex in character and have tight deadlines.

  • Participates in legal programs and projects to achieve coordinated and efficient process improvements and legal support solutions; liaises with other control/functional businesses in support of initiatives.

  • Interacts with senior leaders, internal and external peers to gather information and works closely with the team’s management to determine legal solutions.

  • Continuously stays informed of regulatory changes, new regulations, internal policy changes and developments in the law.

  • Conducts independent research, investigations and analysis, applying institutional knowledge and knowledge of laws, rules and regulations, to support in the identification of legal solutions situations or to formulate an approach or strategy.

  • Applies in-depth understanding of how associated risks differ depending on product and documentation envisaged in relevant jurisdiction(s) and provides advice to the Risk function and business partners accordingly.

  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

As a successful candidate, you’d ideally have the following skills and exposure:

  • 6-10 years of relevant industry experience, preferably with some experience working in an in-house legal role within financial services

  • Ability to manage complex documentation with organization and detail.

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and project management skills, as well as the ability to interact and communicate effectively with Senior management.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook

  • In-depth knowledge of legal customs and practices

  • Knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry.

  • Bachelors/University degree, Master’s degree preferred.

  • Fluent in English and Japanese

  • Basic PC skills (Word, Excel)

  • Communication, teamwork skill

Job description :

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements for ISDA Master / CSA and other similar agreements and documents, which may include letter agreements such as confidentiality agreement, settlement instruction, etc.

  • In such documentation work, coordination with relationship managers, product desks, operations, credit officers, treasurer and other stakeholders that are relevant to the conditions under those agreements are required.

  • Populating data-entry formats to upload agreement data into centralized global database and coordination with operation and technology team for the uploading.

  • Updating and maintenance of correctness and accuracy of the database referenced above.

  • All works are done under the supervision of a team manager and legal counsels.

Languages: Fluent in English and Japanese

Experience: A few year experiences for ISDA Master/CSA documentation/negotiation is required, and if, in addition, has some experiences for other similar agreements, such as FX and derivatives trade confirmations, agreements on securities financing transactions (“SFT”) (for example, repo or securities lending in JSDA forms/GMLA/GMSLA/OSLA), bond option agreements, may be valued.
