Michelman Scientist - Quality Assurance in Cincinnati, Ohio

General Summary

We are looking for someone to lead complex problem solving, rooted in chemistry and engineering, in the pursuit of evidence-based continuous improvement. To be wildly successful in this role, we look to you to showcase your curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and communication in facilitating structured problem solving with cross-functional teams. A deep understanding of chemistry is required, especially surface additives and polymeric applications.

This on-site role is based in Cincinnati, OH, with support to two manufacturing locations. This role reports into our regional Process Engineering and Quality Manager, who oversees manufacturing and administrative functions, which are included in our Quality Management System.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify work-off solutions for non-conforming products (blend-off process)

  • Drive metrics, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for problem batches and customer complaints

  • Drive, implement, and support quality improvement projects

  • Evaluate and release finished goods and raw materials

  • Support the ISO and Quality System processes for the site

  • Ensure compliance with established Good Manufacturing Practices

  • Perform internal audits and data audits

  • Coach quality best practices involving systemic fixes, eliminating waste, and error-proofing

  • Develop and or maintain quality procedures including training

  • Provide Quality System Management support for Cincinnati facilities

  • Serve as the quality JDE (Michelman’s ERP software) and Business Intelligence superuser

  • Ensure compliance with established good manufacturing practices (GMPs)

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, senior leadership, business units and sales department, laboratory, research and development, and plant personnel

  • Participate in the data preparation and reporting of the respective KPIs and management reports.

  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of QMS and Quality related training & coaching.

  • Will lead and participate in internal and external audits

  • Responsible for reviewing analytical results of other QC staff.

  • Assemble and prepare completed data packages for submission to Management and/or Customers as required.

  • Team player and maintains professional communication with other associates

  • Lab safety and quality control testing best practices (calibration, document control, trace-ability)

  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools /data analysis tools, problem-solving tools

  • Ability to identify and document cause/corrective action/follow-up

  • Ability to oversee and drive quality circles team projects

  • Ability to think independently and handle projects through to completion

  • Proven ability to follow procedures and handle multiple tasks

  • Works independently with minimal supervision

Other

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Potential for minimal travel

  • Potential for off-shift work assignments

Education and Experience

  • B.S. in chemistry (or related field), required

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry, preferred

  • Minimum two (2) years of Quality Control and/or Quality Assurance experience in an Industrial Setting

  • Liquid batch processing and/or Emulsion chemistry experience preferred

  • Quality System experience (ISO-9000, Kosher, GMP)

Work Hours

Michelman’s standard work hours for this role are Monday – Friday from 8 am – 5 pm EST.
