PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (SUMMARY) Reporting directly to the Warehouse Supervisor the Shipping Material Handler Lead is responsible for leading the shipping crew in daily responsibilities and verifying and maintaining records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare items for shipment. Duties include completing and leading the assembling, addressing, stamping, loading and shipping merchandise or material; receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Education, Credentials, Licenses: A High School Diploma or GED or equivalent from accredited institution. Kind & Length of Experience: At least 5 - 7 years in a fast-paced environment developing and implementing processes in a warehouse. Must have competent skills in using computer software. Efficient or willing to learn Excel/Word. Understanding of inventory control and cycle counts Safety knowledge of Dock locks, wheel chocks, and trailer supports. PERFORMANCE MEASURES AND STANDARDS Ability to lift over 50 pounds. Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as manifests, invoices, or orders to verify accuracy. Trains all fellow crew members in duties to act as backup during vacation or illness. Performs and/or facilitates on the job training for new and developing material handlers. Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes. Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, or shipping orders, to route materials. Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications. Pack, seal, label, or affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using hand tools, power tools, or postage meter. Contact carrier representatives to make arrangements or to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials. Deliver or route materials to departments using hand truck, conveyor, or sorting bins. Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock. Determine shipping methods, routes, or rates for materials to be shipped. Compute amounts, such as space available, shipping, storage, or demurrage charges, using computer or price list. Load trucks. In your absence you are to ensure that the tasks assigned to you are adequately covered by trained personnel. You are responsible to communicate and work with your manager to ensure your workload is covered when you are out.
