Astronics-PECO, located in picturesque Clackamas, Oregon near the foothills of Mt. Hood, designs, certifies, manufactures, and sells a wide range of products to commercial, government, and military markets throughout the world. PECO-Controls are well established temperature control devices designed for applications where high quality is a must, such as the hospitality industry, commercial cooking, and other critical applications.

As a Process Engineer with our die cast team, you will play a crucial role in optimizing our die casting operations. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality standards, improving process efficiency, and driving innovation within the die casting department. We operate multiple machines to cast parts in aluminum and zinc for aerospace and military applications. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and optimize die casting processes to enhance efficiency, reduce cycle times, and minimize waste.

  • Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to achieve optimal production output.

  • Train and mentor production staff on best practices and safety protocols related to die casting operations.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, troubleshooting procedures, and improvements.

  • Collaborate with the product design and development teams to provide input on manufacturability during the early stages of new product development.

  • Conduct feasibility studies for new die cast products and processes.

  • Research, design, develop, and test a variety of mechanical, electronic and electro-mechanical devices, processes and systems.

  • Perform design and product development activities, including die and fixtures for implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.

  • Provide support for manufacturing, quality, and sales in meeting customer requirements.

  • Investigate emerging technologies, identify new product opportunities, and establish parameters for product direction/design.

  • Lead activities across groups and across products to ensure product inter-operability and compatibility with other projects.

  • Attend Quality Manual Standards Training and applies Quality Standards accordingly.

  • Observe safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field with two or more years of related experiences and/or training.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies including Die Casting and assembly methods.

  • Experience with control fundamentals and the application of mechanical and electronics.

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and sold geometry and trigonometry.

  • Possess strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and CAD programs.

  • Possess knowledge of ISO 9000 and aerospace requirements (AS9100, D1-9000, etc.).

  • Possess strong business writing skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, make presentations and write concise reports for all levels of employees.
