Job Summary:

JOB SUMMARY

The Tumor Registrar is responsible for all aspects of data collection for reportable cancer cases. The Tumor Registrar completes case-finding, abstracting, and follow-up data entry, and completes additional activities as needed to meet standards set by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers as well as the Tennessee Cancer Registry as mandated by law. The Tumor Registrar is detail oriented, committed to high-quality data abstraction, meets both quality and productivity standards, functions well independently and works well under time constraints to ensure deadlines are met. TR assists the Cancer Program Coordinator/Manager as needed with special projects to meet cancer program standards set by the ACoS.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identify, compile and abstract within the appropriate timeline all diagnosed and/or treated malignancies (determine single versus primary cancers) including reportable benign tumors in compliance with NCRA specifications when reporting to the Tennessee Cancer Registry who utilizes guidelines established by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) in addition to guidelines from the National Cancer Institute (SEER) Program, the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS)/Rapid Quality Reporting System(RQRS)/National Cancer Database (NCDB) and the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC).

• Maintain, update, and implement annually the Policy & Procedure Cancer Registry Manual that specifies current ACoS data definitions and coding instructions to describe all reportable cases.

• Continued participation in the Rapid Quality Reporting System (RQRS) with submission of all eligible cases for all valid performance measures and adherence to the RQRS terms and conditions.

• Maintains an 80% follow-up rate from the cancer registry reference date on all eligible analytic cases as defined by the ACoS.

• Maintains a 90% follow-up rate on all eligible analytic cases diagnosed within the last five years or from the cancer registry reference date, whichever is shorter as specified by the ACoS.

• Annually complete data submission for all requested analytic cases to the NCDB in accordance with the ACoS Call for Data. Annually cases submitted to the NCDB that were diagnosed on January 1, 2003 or later meet the established quality criteria and resubmission deadline specified.

• TR is an active member of the Cancer Committee and/assists the Cancer Program Coordinator in developing and publishing the Annual Cancer Report as required by the American College of Surgeons. Retrieves and compiles data for preparation of annual reporting and may collaborate in generating reports for special duties.

• Submit all requested information for cases identified as special studies by the ACoS by the specified deadline and all further documentation required if our program is selected for participation.

• Perform life-time patient follow-up to provide cancer incidence, treatment, and outcome information.

• Submit required data to regulatory and accreditation organizations to maintain compliance including the National Cancer Data Base, accurately and timely.

• Compile requests for data and statistics from the Cancer Registry for facility planning, administration, and internal department requests.
