Summary

Duties
  • Establishes, maintains, reviews, determines processes, and closes payroll accounts for retired armed forces personnel and their annuitants.
  • Under general supervision, resolves difficult and complicated retired pay actions.
  • Resolves questions of entitlement to additional retired pay compensation.
  • Corrects and adjusts retired pay due to retroactive legislative adjustments which affect benefits due from other agencies.
  • Determines applicability of payments, and initiates collection of overpayments as necessary.
  • Duties will be developmental in nature when the position is filled below the full performance level.

Qualifications

This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense via delegated authority by the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Applicants MUST have related financial experience AND/OR a related financial degree *(examples include: Finance, Accounting, Management, Actuarial Science, or related), in addition to meeting Office of Personnel Management (OPM) minimum qualification requirements. *Substitution of combination of education and experience must still, in conjunction, minimally satisfy the DHA qualification requirement. One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. GS-05: Specialized experience is defined as: *performing duties that support the processing of financial/accounting transactions using standardized procedures that may include reviewing financial/accounting systems information/documents for accuracy/ completeness, inputting financial/accounting information into automated systems, or correcting invalid financial/accounting transactions. *GS-06: Specialized experience is defined as: processing a wide variety of complex, nonrecurring payroll transactions, and resolving problems within automated pay accounts, experience must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of a wide-range of payroll actions, regulations, policies and
