YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION: NORMA HERR WOMENS CENTER Some are surprised to learn we don't offer swim lessons and other recreational sports related activities, yet, from its inception, the YWCA of Greater Cleveland has been dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA recognizes the systemic barriers to housing such as racism, sexism, and ableism and every day our staff work with women at Norma Herr Women's Shelter to navigate these barriers. After taking over the site operations in 2018, Norma Herr still remains Cleveland's only low barrier emergency shelter for adult women aged 18-80, serving an average of 170 or more guests each night providing each person with access to safe shelter and up to 3 meals a day, 365 days a year. YOUR IMPACT AS A SHELTER SUPERVISOR: NORMA HERR WOMENS CENTER As the 2nd shift Shelter Advocate Supervisor at the Norma Herr Women's Center, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and guiding a dedicated team. Your responsibilities will include supervising advocates in their daily tasks of providing care and managing shelter guests, ensuring that any staff or guest issues are promptly reported to the department director, and verifying that all incidents are appropriately documented. Additionally, you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering crisis intervention services as required, making a direct impact on the well-being of the women we serve. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN A SHELTER SUPERVISOR To excel as the Shelter Supervisor, you must possess a unique set of skills tailored to the demands of the role. Strong leadership abilities are essential, as you will be supervising a team of advocates and guiding them through daily operations. Your interpersonal skills will be put to the test, especially when navigating high-stress crisis situations. Previous experience in supervision, working within homeless systems, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are crucial for success in this position. Effective communication, both written and verbal, is a must-have skill to ensure clear and concise interaction with staff and guests alike.
