Description of Job

Your application must provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in relation to the following duties : Position is responsible for providing a safe working and learning environment by protecting life and property, detecting of crime, preventing of criminal activity, investigating, community services, and enforcing of all laws, rules and regulations.

Criminal Law Enforcement duties include:

• Respond to all calls for service, both criminal and non-criminal

• Conduct field interviews of suspicious people and their conduct

• Investigate alleged criminal actions, collect evidence as needed, interview victims, witnesses, and suspects

• Arrest and/or detain person(s) as appropriate and provide proper advisements to those under arrest as needed

• Conduct appropriate traffic enforcement for motor vehicle violations

• Investigate and record (as appropriate) motor vehicle accidents and render aid as needed

• Patrol/monitor campus to deter, prevent and/or discover criminal activity and/or people in need of Law Enforcement services

• Safely respond to both criminal and non-criminal emergencies

• Always utilize hands free device when operating a state vehicle

• Work in collaboration and constructive cooperation with fellow officers, Departmental Leadership, and other departments

• Provide for effective community relations with the public through verbal and written communication

• Check schedule daily to ensure compliance with scheduled shifts

• Arrive for shifts ready to start at scheduled time in proper duty uniform with all required equipment, and remain present and in proper uniform for duration of scheduled shift.

• Body camera to be worn on front of uniform shirt, and powered on for the duration of your assigned shift.

Record keeping and evidence handling duties include:

• Prepare reports, both written and verbal, regarding all activities performed during a shift

• Complete daily patrol logs for each shift and submit by end of shift

• Prepare and complete necessary reports regarding criminal activity for presentation to District Attorney for prosecution

• Prepare and complete necessary reports for Campus Administrative action or actions, to include dissemination to PPCC

• Reports to be completed by end of shift unless authorized by a Staff member

• Prepare and preserve all necessary and required evidence, and log and store the evidence properly

• Testify, as required, in court

• Activate Body Camera when required by Department policy or stale law

• Categorize Body Camera videos when uploaded or by the end of each shift.

• Update 24-31-901 Tracking Report as required by SB 20-217

Additional duties include:

• Maintain crowd and traffic control at public events such as political rallies, demonstrations,

concerts, and sporting events

• Provide specialized enforcement for public events such as political rallies, demonstrations,

concerts, and sporting events

• Coordinate efforts with appropriate Law Enforcement regarding dignitary protection and security

• Provide Law Enforcement escort as appropriate for campus monetary operations

• Assist the motoring public as needed Lock/unlock PPCC facilities as needed

and continuing education

• Participate in in-service and specialized Law Enforcement training and continuing education

• Maintain proficiency in firearms, arrest control, defensive tactics, and any P.O.S.T. required training

• Maintain an ongoing familiarity with current Law Enforcement legal issues and recent local, state, and federal court decisions that affect Law Enforcement

• Complete all assigned Police One training by due date

• Provide community relations with the public through verbal and written communications and exchanges

• As assigned, provide crime prevention and safety lectures and demonstrations

• As assigned, provide certified child restraint safety checks

• Appear when requested and required in the appropriate court (County, District, etc.)

• Provide and give testimony relative to the investigation of crimes and the charging of individuals with criminal and non-criminal offenses

• Maintain Instructor certification through the issuing authority through instructing and/or professional development as required to maintain certification.

• Comply with all P.O.S.T. mandates to instruct classes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification and a Colorado driver's license.

One year of law enforcement experience, which included patrol experience as a Police Officer or Sheriff's Deputy enforcing state laws and traffic violations by foot and vehicle. Do not use "see resume" statements on application. Your application must be completed in its entirety describing your experience in order to be considered. (Part-time experience will be pro-rated)

Substitutions:

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Must be at least 21 years of age; possess a valid Colorado Driver License and no Felony convictions; domestic violence convictions; acquired more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver's license; alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years. You may need to submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check and a Motor Vehicle Driving Record check.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Completion of Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) within one year of appointment and completion of Leadership Training within one year of appointment. This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It also requires seizing, holding, controlling, and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary. Disqualifiers include - terminated for cause, resigned/retired in lieu of termination, resigned/retired while under investigation, resigned/retired while under disciplinary action, credibility report with POST, and Brady listed.
