National Park Service Maintenance Worker in Colter Bay, Wyoming

Summary This position is located in Grand Teton National Park, within the Facilities Management Division. This vacancy will be filled in Colter Bay, WY. Responsibilities This position works in the laborer and custodial team in Grand Teton National Park. The position involves significant time outdoors in Grand Teton National Park, traveling to various parts of the park for facility operations, maintenance, and repair. Summer work includes inspection and minor repairs to visitor facilities, landscape maintenance, and facility operations and cleaning. Work is occasionally strenuous and may include late season snow removal and furniture installation. The laborer and custodial team takes pride in providing the essential support for our visitors to have a world class experience at Grand Teton National Park. Duties include: Provides routine maintenance on park facilities including minor carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical work. Assists higher grade maintenance employees in the performance of maintenance tasks. Safely and effectively uses hand power tools required for the job and has the ability to maintain these tools properly. Inspect, clean and repair public use facilities such as picnic areas, restrooms and visitor centers. Perform maintenance of landscaping features such as benches, fences or campground infrastructure. Remove debris and snow from infrastructure with hand tools or equipment. Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and where surfaces are coated, or the parts of systems work on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. Work Environment: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Area Information: Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in northwestern Wyoming preserve a spectacular landscape. The park encompasses the Teton Range and broad valley of Jackson Hole. Majestic peaks, wild canyons, piedmont lakes, forests, sagebrush meadows and the Snake River combine into one of the most scenic settings anywhere in North America. With 333,000 combined acres, the parks are at the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world. Additionally, the park includes a wide array of cultural resources, including 318 historic structures, two national historic landmarks and over 300 archeological sites. Grand Teton is one of the most visited national parks in the country. Services are available in the nearby town of Jackson, a small, recreation focused community of 10,000 year-round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital, well-respected school system, grocery stores, restaurants, and seasonal festivals. Outdoor activities abound including hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, biking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering. Summer temperatures range between 65 - 80 degrees. Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow. Government housing may be available. Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 1 night per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes. Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following screen out job element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Applicants must show in their application package that they are able to perform common tasks associated with maintenance work under close supervision and subject to inspection at the end of each task including facility maintenance and repair of residential and commercial buildings including minor carpentry, painting and minor plumbing and electrical work. Additional Information This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate. This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectees are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. This position is expected to be in non-pay status for 2 weeks from mid-November to late-November but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
