Robert Half Staff Accountant in Columbia, Maryland

Description We are offering a contract to hire opportunity for a Staff Accountant role based in Columbia, Maryland, United States. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of accounting tasks, with a particular focus on accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and use of QuickBooks. The role will be based on-site and will involve collaboration with various team members to ensure the efficient operation of our financial department.

Responsibilities:

• Manage daily and weekly accounts payable processing

• Attend to immediate assistance needs for clients

• Process daily deposits in QuickBooks and prepare bi-weekly client deposits

• Assist with monthly accounts receivable processing

• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and customer invoices

• Provide support for monthly general ledger reconciliations

• Oversee monthly online credit card processing, including verification of expense receipts

• Research internal and external accounting inquiries

• Responsible for yearly 1099 processing

• Perform quarterly inventory count on company's gift cards

• Work with the Finance Manager to keep department’s policies and procedures updated

• Maintain all Accounts Payable records in accordance with Document Retention Policy & Procedures

• Provide support for internal and external annual audits; prepare reports and assemble documents

• Assist with providing data for annual budget preparation

• Work on various projects and carry out other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager Requirements • Possession of a minimum of one year of experience in the role of a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role

• Demonstrated proficiency in managing Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)

• Proven experience with Bank Reconciliations

• Familiarity with General Ledger operations

• Ability to prepare and process Journal Entries

• Experience with Month End Close procedures

• Skilled in using QuickBooks for accounting tasks

• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in all tasks

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred

• Must be legally eligible to work in the specified location.
