The School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment ( SEOE (https://sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/artsandsciences/earth_ocean_and_environment/index.php) ) at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a Professional Track Faculty Member and Director of the Masters of Earth and Environmental Resources Management ( MEERM (https://sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/artsandsciences/earth_ocean_and_environment/study/graduate/earth_environment_resource_management/index.php) ) professional master’s degree program. We seek an energetic, innovative individual committed to providing high-quality educational experiences to aspiring leaders in environmental management and sustainability in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to lead the next phase of development of the MEERM program with the goal of building a leading professional masters degree in environmental management. Responsibilities of the position include identifying, developing, and maintaining internship and cooperative opportunities for SEOE students; leading marketing and recruitment efforts for the MEERM program; and leading improvement of the curriculum to ensure it meets the needs of students and employers. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the MEERM program’s internship course and teaching additional courses in the candidate’s area of expertise across the SEOE’s curriculum. This full-time, professional track faculty position is on a 9-month pay basis with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2024.

The SEOE is a multidisciplinary unit within the College of Arts and Sciences, with academic programs in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geological Sciences, and Marine Science. The SEOE enrolls approximately 600 undergraduate students in four undergraduate programs, 60 graduate students in 5 graduate programs, and 35 faculty representing research areas ranging from natural to social sciences, including marine, environmental and geological sciences. Additionally, USC is home to the Baruch Marine Field Laboratory (https://sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/artsandsciences/baruch_institute/index.php) ( BMFL ), which conducts research and supports education to improve the management of marine and estuarine resources and is located on the coast, in Georgetown, SC. With a full complement of research infrastructure as well as unparalleled access to a ‘near-pristine’ estuary, the BMFL is available to enhance teaching resources and the MEERM student experience.

Advertised Minimum Qualifications :

The successful candidate will have a social science or natural science PhD related to environmental policy/management, environmental science, or sustainability.
