Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief / Party Chief for our team out of Columbia, SC.

The Survey Crew Chief will lead a two- or three-person survey field crew in day-to-day operations for various surveys for our Digital Practice & Technology (DPT) group.

Additionally, they will:

  • Coordinate and interact with survey team, Survey Field Coordinator and Survey Manager

  • Work with robotic total stations, GNSS equipment and terrestrial scanners

  • Work on boundary, topographic, as-built, construction, route and control network surveys

  • Maintain schedule and budget requirements of assigned tasks

  • Monitor and maintain survey equipment and truck assigned to crew

  • Understand and maintain standards and specifications of project requirements

  • Keep and maintain accurate field records

  • Adapt and respond to situations should they arise

  • Prepare timesheet

  • Act with a "team" attitude and communicate effectively

  • Understand and follow all applicable safety procedures

  • Rely on general understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to plan and accomplish moderate goals

  • Occasional overnight travel to additional locations. When required, travel is typically Monday-Thursday.

  • Typically work four 10-hour days, Monday-Thursday.

These are some examples of the types of interesting projects our teams have worked on:

  • Terrestrial laser scanning of the exterior building of multiple distribution centers across the US

  • Route survey of 55-miles of new right-of-way for natural gas transmission line

  • 680-acre Boundary Survey along the Black Mingo River in Georgetown, SC

  • 718-acre Boundary/Topographic survey along SC Hwy 9 in Chester, SC

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Highschool Diploma and 4 years of related survey experience or demonstrated equivalency of survey experience and education

  • 2 years of experience leading a survey crew

  • Valid Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with boundary, topographic, as-built, construction, route and control network surveys

  • Ability to travel occasionally overnight to other locations

  • Possess good communication skills to work with the project team

  • Have good leadership skills to manage the crew and work with the project team

  • Have strong organizational skills to maintain project files

  • Computer skills (ability to check email, fill out daily timesheet, transfer data files)

  • Laser scanning experience is helpful

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $25.00/hour - $30.00/hour.
