Oracle Senior Principal Software Engineer in Columbus, Ohio
Job Description
As a Consulting Member of Technical Staff you will own and lead software architecture and development for major components of our cloud service. You should be a distributed systems generalist, able to architect broad systems interactions, while being very hands-on, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and lower level system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in an innovative, agile environment, and be excited to learn. Your role is to enable service teams and operators to manage frequent changes safely and with least possible cognitive load. We are building tools and services to provide the best in class operational experience and you will be key to this effort. This entails design, development, and troubleshooting software among our databases, applications, tools, networks etc., while making it even easier for others to do so.
You will be building tools for monitoring complex systems and high volume transactions, and their integration with other business applications. You shall be able to identify problems before they occur. In this role, you will also be guiding more junior developers globally.
You will be responsible to:
Design, development, and enhancement of new and existing products and services from inception and design through deployment.
Adopt and enhance OCI standard tools and DevOps standards, and practices.
Conduct code and architecture reviews of the products and services.
Resolve performance and scalability issues related to products and services.
Contribute to architecture standards and community practices.
Identify opportunities to improve the health, scalability, and resiliency of products and services.
Build highly complex enhancements and resolve complex bugs.
Build and execute unit tests and unit plans.
Review integration and regression test plans.
Preferred Requirements:
10+ years’ experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems, with hands-on experience developing services on a public cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure, Oracle)
Previous success mitigating risk and making nuanced trade-offs designing for security, operability, availability, performance, scalability and extensibility.
Strong knowledge of Java (and similar languages) programming, and experience with scripting languages such as Python.
Networking and security skills on Unix/Linux platforms.
Strong knowledge of API and application design and architecture.
Solid understanding of databases, storage and distributed persistence technologies.
Experience with common monitoring and observability tools.
Experience with continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD), git, and common IDEs such Eclipse, Visual Studio Code, Intellij
Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Must have strong analytical, written, and communications skills.
BS or equivalent in computer science/engineering or relevant field preferred.

Responsibilities
As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. Define specifications for significant new projects and specify, design and develop software according to those specifications. You will perform professional software development tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

US: Hiring Range: from $96,800 to $251,600 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
