TriMas Corporation Material Handler & Weight Clerk “A” in Commerce, California

The Material Handler & Weight Clerk “A," will perform simple to complex, clerical and computer data entry in the stock room areas such as receiving, storing and disbursement of materials. Maintain an accurate inventory by ensuring proper count and balance sheets are accurate. Distribute materials according to Manufacturing Plans to staging production areas. Ensure proper handling of Manufacturing components.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Counts, and weigh all incoming materials and verifies items against work order quantities match.

  2. Accepts (receives) materials validating quantity, part number and description

  3. Verifies work orders are filled completely.

  4. Fulfills order kitting (Pulls) by locating materials and verifying materials listed on production orders against Syteline inventory status.

  5. Maintains inventory transactions accuracy to 98% ensuring product movement is documented

  6. Maintains inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials in proper stock location.

  7. Maintains system & all records necessary in accordance with established procedures for material inventory control and tracking.

  8. Maintains tally sheets and turns in all discrepancies to production control

  9. Meets production daily requirements (PULLS) in accordance to production control needs.

  10. Works with production control to adjust for production scheduling changes and to meet daily production standards.

  11. Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the material and weight handling operations. Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications Assists others in department as required and provides functional back-up for Shipping Department, including UPS station.

Equipment/Process Responsibilities -Performs duties where property, tools, equipment or machines may be damaged, or man-hours lost through improper daily maintenance and attention to processing.

Material or Product Responsibilities -Performs duties that require close attention to work and supporting documentation. Responsible for accuracy of inventory and paper control system.

Responsibility for Work of Others -Accuracy of communication is mandatory to the success of proper production items. Must communicate to appropriate personnel any problems regarding material inventory, production schedules, or system concerns.

Safety Responsibilities -Good housekeeping, knowledge of good material handling safety is necessary as well as adherence to Company Safety Rules.

Initiative and Ingenuity -Requires initiative in solving problems associated with maintaining inventory in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Ingenuity is required to adjust to changes in production schedules. Makes suggestions for improving the efficiency of workflow or equipment operation. Takes on or reports for additional work as current tasks are completed. Performs other work-related tasks as deemed necessary by Company needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Environmental Surroundings -Work is in a warehouse/shipping environment of a machine shop where noise, exposure to outside weather conditions, repetitive nature of the job etc. are less desirable than in a typical office environment.

Unavoidable Hazards -Possible hazards related to costs, bruises, and muscle strains. Exposure to metal working fluids. Appropriate protective wear regarding eyes, ears and clothing are required.

EFFORT

Physical- Able to lift over 25 pounds. Requires strength in opening and maneuvering crates, boxes, raw material etc. Able to reach, bends stretch and manipulate small parts with hands and fingers. Capable of operating computer and processing paperwork necessary for inventory control. Able to drive forklift. Most jobs assignments require continuous standing and/or sitting for periods exceeding 15 minutes at a time.

Mental -Work at times is highly repetitive and monotonous. However, some aspects of material handling may require improvisation and ingenuity, required to organize workflow for best efficiency.

Visual -Close attention detailed documentation. Capable of accurately counting various size pieces for verification of inventory and goods received. Requires close and distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
