Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division Cootehill Cavan

Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name “Similac”. To complement the range of “Similac” infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow on formulae under the brand name of “Gain”. The essential ingredient is liquid skim milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurized, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada.

Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide. Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 liters per day. This secure supply together with Ireland’s reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition.

We currently have a vacancy for Packing Projects Engineer and the role will involve the following:

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  • Plan and execute Projects in the Packing Department in line with site strategy and establishment of KPI’s to measure performance whilst maintaining close liaison with managers in other departments with the aim of improving production efficiencies by means of a team approach

  • Responsible for complying with Division and Site validation protocols and policies

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Projects Engineer is responsible for consulting any SOP’s for any job task he/she may carry out and ensure they fully understand and adhere to the SOP.

  • Plan and schedule work in accordance with plant demand and available manpower.

  • Assist Manufacturing Manager in preparation of capital budgets and aim to improve efficiencies (OEE’s) and to be cost effective.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the Manufacturing Department and participate in ongoing change and plant wide business excellence projects.

  • Manage department finances within the annual organizational plan.

  • Get cost estimates for capital projects as required and prepare RCEs in terms of submission

  • Provide status report to Manufacturing Manager for assigned projects, as required including KPIs

  • Ensure compliance with Abbott International Global Standards, GMP & Environmental requirements.

  • Deputize for other Engineers, project managers and front line leaders in their absence.

  • Coordinate and direct external contractors to ensure adherence to safety, quality, hygiene and cGMP procedures.

  • This Job function will change where update procedures to GMP, EHS, Technical / New Equipment, Quality Procedures & SOP’s are made.

  • This list of responsibilities may change depending on plant needs and employees are expected to be adaptable and flexible were this need arises.

EDUCATION & COMPETENCIES:

  • Third level qualification in Engineering or Science is essential for this role.

  • 3 years relevant experience within a similar role or within a Science or Engineering function

KEY SKILLS

  • The ability to organise, motivate and understand people.

  • Good interpersonal /communication skills

  • Good understanding of the Packing department operations within FMCG regulated environment would be advantage

  • Ability to work within a Team environment and as an individual contributor
