GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Assistant Director of Career Coaching & Outreach will work with the Toppel Career Center to provide career and professional development related outreach workshops and initiatives for University of Miami students, student organizations, and faculty. This position oversees the Toppel Career Center’s outreach and peer-to-peer career coaching services that serve as catalysts for the majority of student engagement with the Center. This position directly supervises the Career Education Graduate Assistant and peer Career Coach team. Reporting directly to the Director of Career Education, the Assistant Director will lead the center’s efforts to build meaningful relationships with student organizations, faculty and staff to increase our outreach to students at the university.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Career Outreach

  • Manage day-to-day operations for career outreach program; coordinate efforts with faculty, staff, and student organizations and schedule Toppel Career Center staff to facilitate accordingly

  • Create and enhance outreach workshops focused on a variety of career topics, including job search techniques, successful interviewing, and career exploration

  • Develop relationships with faculty and staff at the University of Miami to increase outreach taking place on-campus through classroom presentations, program development, and program facilitation

  • Serve as liaison to assigned academic School/College(s) and support them through career programming

  • Develop marketing strategy focused on the UM community (including faculty, staff, and student organizations) that highlight programs and services offered by the Toppel Career Center

Peer-to-Peer Career Coaching

  • Supervise Career Education Graduate Assistant and co-supervise up to 14 peer Career Coaches who assist with outreach and drop-in career coaching

  • Manage recruitment and selection process for Graduate Assistant and peer Career Coach staff

  • Manage and facilitate ongoing training of peer Career Coaches in these areas: career coaching theory and strategies, facilitating outreach workshops, and career resources

  • Manage online resume and practice interview review process through Handshake career management platform and Big Interview platform

  • Collaborate with Associate Director of Career Readiness by providing professional development to all Toppel student interns

SALARY

$ 49,858.49

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, implement and evaluate innovative programming as market trends change

  • Maintain weekly career coaching schedule on an as-needed basis

  • Assist with department’s student assessment measures

  • Participate in weekly meetings with team members

  • Staff events during some evening and weekend hours

  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

  • Skilled in assessing, organizing, and prioritizing multiple tasks

  • Ability to present to small and large audiences on career-related topics

  • Skilled in training and supervision

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education or related area preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree required

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Two to four years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree

  • An appropriate combination of relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered
