University of Miami Equipment Assistant, Olympic Sports (Temporary) in Coral Gables, Florida

The Equipment Assistant assists with managing maintenance and tracking of our sport programs equipment. The incumbent will have day-to day oversight of several varsity sports at the University and will work in conjunction with the Equipment Manager to manage shipping and receiving of product and manage the access and security of locker rooms and storage space.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Receives and dispenses locks, towels, uniforms, athletic equipment and supplies.

  • Maintains records of all equipment/supplies issued and returned.

  • Performs periodic inventories of stock on hand.

  • Repairs minor damages to equipment and arrange for repair of more seriously damaged items with suppliers.

  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment, such as oiling leather or plastic gear.

  • Arranges for cleaning of equipment and laundering of clothing.

  • Makes records and bill individuals responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • Fits students with athletic equipment such as uniforms, shoes, pads, helmets, etc.

  • Cleans assigned area of work and related equipment.

  • Maintains inventory records and procedures established by the Equipment Manager.

  • Communicates effectively with students, coaches, staff and alumni.

  • Receives, unpacks and examines stock to verify conformance to specifications and invoices.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

The Equipment Assistant assists the operation of the Olympic equipment room. This role will assist in the receiving, issuance, use and maintenance of athletic equipment according to established policies and procedures for Olympic sports programs as assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the operation of the Olympic equipment room, including the issuing and retrieval of equipment, budget and maintenance. 25%

Receives new equipment and performs necessary documentation. Assists in the maintenance of current inventories of all athletic equipment supplies. 10%

Assists in the transportation and implementation of athletics equipment at athletics competitions. 5%

Performs laundry function for all sports uniforms as required. 5%

Supervises student equipment managers. 10%

Maintains a continuing and thorough knowledge of all applicable University, departmental and NCAA rules and regulations and complies with those rules and regulations. 5%

Sends out bids to qualified vendors and manufacturers, and, once bids are returned, puts all prices on spread sheet to determine best price item for acquisition. 5%

Assists in conducting physical inventory twice a year and maintains proper documentation. 5%

Assists in the preparation of the equipment room budget to be submitted to the Athletic Business Office/Chief Financial Officer. 5%

Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Equipment. 5%

Adidas contract as it pertains to Olympic sports. 10%

Issue equipment to Olympic sports athletes. 5%

Inventory all Olympic equipment at end of year. 5%
