Experian is looking for team-oriented attorneys with 5 to 14 years of relevant experience to provide legal support for Experian’s North American consumer services business, Experian Consumer Services (“ECS”), headquartered in Costa Mesa, California. 

 

You will provide support for all legal matters of the day-to-day operations of Experian Consumer Services. The ECS business ($1.5B+ in revenue) provides financial wellness, credit education and identity protection solutions directly to over 70 million consumer members and empowers companies to provide these solutions to their customers. You will join a passionate and innovative ECS team with a mission to provide Financial Power for All with trailblazing products such as Experian Boost, an instant credit building platform using consumer permissioned telecom, utility, rent and streaming payment data with over 14 million connected consumers; Experian Smart Money Digital Checking and Debit Card, a game changing digital checking account and debit card that allows consumers to build credit without accumulating debt; Experian Go, a first of its kind program to help “credit invisible” consumers with little or no credit history directly establish an Experian credit file; and Experian Insurance Services, a digital reinvention of the insurance broker model with technology, data and human interaction.

 

This position will report to the Vice President & Head of Legal – Consumer Services in the Law Department and will focus on a wide array of transactional and regulatory matters for a digital consumer FinTech business, including:

  • Assessing and advising on existing and emerging financial services, consumer protection and data privacy laws and regulations

  • Performing legal risk and regulatory reviews and risk assessments for new product and marketing initiatives

  • Negotiating complex strategic alliance, FinTech and financial services partnership agreements

  • Act as the thought leader and subject matter expert on the evolving legal and regulatory landscape for financial services and will work closely with the functional leaders and general managers of verticals in the ECS business

  • A minimum of 5 to 14 years of relevant legal experience in a large law firm and/or in-house setting

  • License to practice law

  • Excellent academic credentials and the highest standards for thoroughness and diligence in handling legal matters

  • Legal experience in relevant areas, including litigation, transactions, and regulatory compliance, product, and digital marketing counseling

  • Experience in handling matters for highly regulated industries

  • Ability to work with little supervision, and be an active member of a congenial legal team and work well with non-legal professionals

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment

  • Ability to understand complex business issues, develop practical, problem-solving strategies and effectively communicate across different audiences in a positive manner

  • Ability to work on multiple high-visibility initiatives, understanding the details while at the same time being able to provide strategic legal advice on big picture items

Preferred

  • Experience with financial services and FinTech regulations and/or transactions

  • Specific experience in a regulatory and/or transactional practice relevant to FinTech and financial services

  • Hybrid role based in Costa Mesa, California preferred
