Position Summary

The Senior Manager is the site technical reference person in equipment and technology to deliver strong sterile manufacturing processes. They hold overall responsibility and accountability for Project Engineering Commissioning, Qualification and Validation Engineers and Project Managers activities across the site.

This role model leader will encompass the Intensity, Integrity, Innovation and Involvement which are the 4i core values in Thermo Fisher.

This team delivers successful projects throughout strategic planning and technical vision across these areas with a Quality-by-Design approach.

The role is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team at Swindon and proactively drives the site cultural change!

Job Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Drives alignment across the Engineering / Technical functions. Ensuring effective transition of projects from inception and planning through to handover to Tech Transfer and Operations.

  • Facilitate and align Projects Engineering and Project Management with overall Engineering strategy and standards for existing and new facilities.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external business partners to ensure optimal performance and delivery for Projects.

  • Ensure that engineering strategies and processes are in place to meet site objectives quality and delivery targets, on time and to budget, introducing technology to increase revenue targets.

  • Actively works with group and network engineers in alignment to current standard processes and policies

  • Operates a process for safe selection of external contractors per IR35.

  • Reports on Project Engineering activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

  • Ensures that Environmental, Health and Safety, engineering and quality standards and procedures are adhered to

People Management

  • An inspiring leader who coaches, mentors and develops the site engineering team that delivers innovative and sustainable projects

  • Translates site strategy into measurable departmental goals, with clear Key Performance Indicators, to monitor ongoing progress and performance

  • Ensures strong communication to implement timely changes and improvements

  • Drives design and execution in accordance with any cGMPs, Environment, Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors

  • Adapts the business structure, resource plans and drives cultural changes to deliver business objectives and exceed customer expectations.

  • Creates a strong succession plan to enable career enhancement

Business Planning

  • Collaborates with Business Development to find new opportunities and build on the existing client base.

  • Supports new business initiatives and promotes innovativesustainable projects to help formulate the long-term operating strategy with a focus on engineering activities.

  • Interpreting client requirements to ensure that technical, legislative and commercial aspects are delivered on each project.

Budget Management

  • Prepare the Project Engineering budget & forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with customer and legal requirements.

  • Handle the budget from identification to completion of projects.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in chemistry or engineering.

  • Extensive experience in Project Engineering, Project Management, Commissioning, Qualification and Validation in pharmaceuticals, preferably in sterile manufacturing.

  • Experienced with large capital projects.

  • Experienced in building and leading a team and working in multi-functional teams.

  • Familiar with setting up standard procedures and processes along with engineers from corporate and network.

  • Practical decision-making abilities, accountable and able to work independently without direct supervision while working in a large matrix organisation.

Communication

  • Promote a positive, professional, inclusive, up to challenge and pro-active culture within the site, leading by example

  • Effectively communicate at all levels, internally and externally, to pro-actively influence and persuade others to accept decisions and recommendations.

  • Positive leadership, motivating and inspiring staff to exceed customers expectations.

  • Communicate key issues for discussion and resolution, suggesting possible improvements conducive to the smooth and efficient running of the site and welfare of personnel.

Leadership

  • An engaging leader with technical expertise, able to anticipate operational and customer needs, promoting integrity, intensity, innovation and involvement at site and out of site, who inspires the team members and colleagues to deliver every day a better result.

  • An ambassador for the Company, with professional approach and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Operates with tact and discretion.
