Indian Health Service Advanced Practice Nurse (Psychiatry) in Crow Agency, Montana

Summary A housing subsidy of up to $775 per pay period without dependents or $936 per pay period with dependents may be available. Recruitment, Relocation and Retention incentives may also be available. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry) is a Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with experience in mental health, substance abuse and family practice. The position provides clinical psychiatric nursing services under the supervision of an attending psychiatrist and/or physician supervisor. Responsibilities Performs psychiatric evaluations for child, adolescent and adult diagnosis and treatment, supportive therapy, counseling and guidance; provide case management; prescribes psychotropic medications; supervises medication maintenance; determines continuation or discontinuation of the medication regime. Identify both typical and atypical presentations of psychiatric disorders; differentiate psychiatric presentations of medical conditions from psychiatric disorders, including substance related disorders, and arrange appropriate evaluation and follow up of the former; diagnose psychiatric disorders and recommend treatment. Evaluates mental health status, current and past history of violence, suicidal or self-harm behavior, substance use, level of functioning, health behaviors, trauma, sexual behaviors and social and developmental history. Manage psychiatric emergencies by determining level of risk and initiating and coordinating effective emergency care. Provide consultative psychiatric evaluations and recommendations to requesting health care personnel. Such consultations may occur in any outpatient clinic and any inpatient unit, including emergency room and the intensive care unit, where clients are hospitalized for medical conditions. Develops treatment plan for mental health problems and psychiatric disorders. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assessing plans and providing comprehensive and therapeutic psychiatric care to patient and their families; providing specialized psychiatric services including clinical assessments; completing health and psychiatric history from the patient; reviewing medical history as recorded in patients chart and consults with primary care physicians In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Orders and interprets findings of relevant laboratory and diagnostic tests; Performs mental status examinations, recognizes the major categories of psychiatric; Uses the electronic health record system to obtain patient information, document care, order lab tests and medications; being able to recognize when to refer patient to physician or other health care team member Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
