Amazon Senior Manager, MGM FP&A in Culver City, California

The Amazon MGM Studios Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team is seeking an energetic and experienced leader with a finance, accounting, and FP&A background in the studios / entertainment space. This role will oversee the consolidation and reporting for MGM, comprising six different business lines, and deliver month-end, quarter-end, annual operating budget / 3YF, and other critical financial reporting deliverables to the PV FP&A team, senior leadership, and corporate Amazon. This individual will oversee a team of four individuals supporting FP&A consolidation activities and film content finance. In addition, he or she will partner closely with the finance teams supporting MGM’s various business lines, including television content, worldwide distribution, and MGM+ channels, to deliver reporting (P&L and FCF) to senior finance and business leaders. Other key stakeholders include accounting and other FP&A teams. The successful candidate will have experience with accounting for film content (e.g. ultimates, content amortization, etc.), intercompany transactions, and consolidations. He or she must also possess strong leadership skills, business partnership skills, and effective verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must display strong bias for action, take initiative and anticipate business demands of senior-level business managers. This person must thrive in fast-paced environments and problem-solve ambiguous situations. The individual must lead by example and be willing to roll up his or her sleeves in order to dive deep when needed.

Key job responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the FP&A activities for MGM’s Standalone business (encompassing six business lines and fixed opex) across the P&L and Free Cash Flow (FCF)

  • Report on the financial performance for the MGM business and lead in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc financial reviews

  • Main team liaison with the Corporate, Global Media and Entertainment (GME), Prime Video, and MGM FP&A teams on deliverables and other communication

  • Effectively manage the intercompany reporting and elimination process between MGM and other Amazon businesses

  • Day-to-day management of existing team, ensuring tasks, objectives, deliverables, and timelines are complete and met

  • Detail review key deliverables to ensure accuracy and adherence to management’s expectations; escalate issues to leadership using sound judgment

  • Lead ad-hoc analyses and projects, as requested by leadership

  • Proactively engage with other business leaders or key stakeholders to understand how our planning and reporting activities support their goals and adjust as necessary

  • Invent and/or simplify existing FP&A and processes to allow for more efficient planning cycles and less churn

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for finance integration activities, including new system implementations

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field

  • 12+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience

  • 7+ years of hiring, leading and developing teams experience

  • Experience in positions that require analysis and reporting financial results

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results experience

  • 10+ years of identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, identifying the root cause and creating/implementing an escalation plan experience

  • 5+ years of working with senior staff (e.g. c-suite) experience

  • MBA, or CPA

  • Experience in building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision-making

  • 5+ years of entertainment experience strongly preferred

  • Experience with business M&A transactions, including finance integrations

  • Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (i.e. SQL, MSAccess, Essbase or Cognos) and providing recommendations based on results of ad hoc analyses to management for strategic decision-making

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $122,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $227,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
