UPMC Patient Safety/Risk Management Coordinator in Cumberland, Maryland

UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a Full-time Patient Safety/Risk Management Coordinator to support our Risk Management department!

Under the direction of the Director, Patient Safety/Risk Management, the Patient Safety/Risk Management Coordinator is responsible for coordinating activities to facilitate the improvement of patient care and safety. The Patient Safety/Risk Management Coordinator performs analytical and project management work that supports patient safety and risk management activities and assists in the assessment, measurement, and reporting of ongoing compliance with patient safety and risk management practices throughout UPMC Western Maryland.

Responsibilities:

  • Prioritizes tasks and manages time to ensure that deadlines are met.

  • Prevents or manages interruptions until the highest priority tasks are accomplished.

  • Consistently plans time to ensure adherence to timelines.

  • Proactively renegotiates timeline when necessary, ensuring consensus among all stakeholders.

  • Meets or exceeds productivity standards that have been established for his/her organizational level or position.

  • Has successfully combined skills, ability, and effort level to ensure that expectations related to results/output are achieved.

  • Serves as a key resource to employees at all levels with regard to specific areas of expertise.

  • Communicates effectively, demonstrating a consistent approach to inquiries and serving as a role model for professional conversations and collaboration.

  • Utilizes information received from oral, written, and electronic sources to make effective and appropriate decisions.

  • Provides documentation, if applicable.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment as evidenced by appropriate and timely referral of information.

  • When applicable, uses technology to efficiently and effectively manage information.

  • Seeks/collects and synthesizes information from a variety of stakeholders and sources using various data collection techniques.

  • Clearly documents and validates the accuracy of data and resolves any inconsistencies, seeking additional resources as needed to resolve variances and data gaps.

  • Demonstrates ability to objectively analyze data, and to determine if the data supports the intended goals or desired outcomes.

  • Communicates effectively and appropriately.

  • Uses good judgment as to what to communicate to whom as well as the best way to get that accomplished.

  • Speaks in a clear and credible manner, selecting the right tone for the situation and audience.

  • Listens to others and allows them to make their point.

  • Associate's degree required, nursing or healthcare related field preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Patient Safety training or certification preferred.

  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience in an acute care facility or a general community hospital is required.

  • Previous experience in patient safety, risk management, quality improvement or informatics preferred.

  • Computer skills essential.

  • Must possess excellent analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrates strong attention to process and detail.

  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs or equivalent required.

  • Discretion, confidentiality, and an ability to deal with sensitive issues.

  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills and an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrates ability to set priorities and manage multiple demands effectively. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
