The Junior Transportation Engineer (Roadways) will work under close supervision of a Senior Engineer, Senior Site Inspector or Contract Administrator to develop engineering design work and or construction inspection for various types of private and public roadway projects. The ideal candidate can solve problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation including effective coordination of internal and external constituents, demonstrated experience on various planning and engineering projects, effective meeting facilitation skills and strong knowledge of regulatory requirements.

As a Junior Engineer (Roadways) in our Transportation Group, you will be involved in the planning and design of transportation projects for public and private sector clients, including Departments of Transportation in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, and local municipalities in Atlantic Canada. You will be responsible for assisting project managers and project engineers in the following areas:

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Senior Engineer or Project Manager.

  • Provide detailed design and support of engineering drawings and specifications.

  • Develop alignments, profiles, typical cross-sections, and grading cross-sections.

  • Assist with roadside safety design ,roadway drainage design specifications and quantities

  • Coordinate and assist in the preparation of tender documents, quantity take offs, cost estimates, etc.

  • Support the preparation of reports, presentations of public information and proposals.

  • Utilize relevant software programs to prepare exhibits and working drawings.

  • Assist project managers, engineers, and technicians with various project design tasks.

  • Construction site inspections and visits including completing Field Observation Reports and site diary entries.

  • Assist with CADD design and engineering design.

  • Interpreting requirements and details of contract drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Working knowledge of relevant roadway and highway design guides, such as the TAC Geometric Design Guide,

  • Familiarity with highway and roadway design related software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads and MicroStation,

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Field experience an asset (survey, inspection).

  • Valid driver license.

Education and Experience

  • This position is intended for a recent graduate or undergraduate students from a Civil Engineering program with an emphasis on Transportation Engineering.

Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required, such as delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings or to undertake inspections or travel to our other offices in the region. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions. Candidate will likely spend time in the office working on design projects as undertaking construction inspection for contract projects.

Position will be full-time employment and is based in our Fredericton, NB or Dartmouth, NS offices.
