Description:

Actalent Services is seeking a mechanical test engineer to support the product testing team a large manufacturing client. The product will be a high speed, pneumatic driven air turbine starting device connected to a gearbox speed reducer. The general technical direction will be provided by the lead test engineers assigned to the test. The role will be as a test supporting element that will be assigned specific test and/or test setup tasks in support of the objectives of the project team. These turbine air starters are used for stationary power generation, gas transmission, oil & gas, mining and marine, and aerospace applications. In this role you will: • Establish and enact test plans for turbine and power transmission subassemblies and complete starter assemblies • Perform and analyze basic and advanced testing and analysis as need to support design and development and test objectives • Participate in recurring, cooperative test planning, and reporting activities • Take direction from Design and Project Leads and the Test Group Leader • Provide hands-on support to the technical teams through preparation and execution of test programs and test set-up and test execution • Abide by and provide necessary improvement support for existing AS9100 Quality System • Write and develop LabVIEW programs to automate and monitor tests • Assist in the general maintenance, upkeep, and improvement in the lab and its capabilities by ensuring that the systems and equipment are functioning properly • Ensure proper safeguards are established and maintenance performed for all equipment required for purposes of testing and testing support • Review test preparation for completeness. • Monitor tests in progress to ensure no problems. • Collect test result data files and process using software tools. • Review processed results for indications of change in trends or failures. • Send data, results, and report to engineering team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

Preferred Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology or (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 5 years of engineering test technical experience) At least 2 additional years of experience in test facility environment. Prefer a candidate with a level of LabVIEW experience to create from scratch, but a candidate familiar enough to modify a LabVIEW program would assist our immediate need. Desired Qualifications • Minimum of 2 years of experience in testing, test evaluation, and a manufacturing environment • Ability to understand complex engineering principles / situations / problems • Strong time management skills • Strong oral and written communication skills • Strong interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently • Ability to work with non-technical personnel on technical matters • Ability to work in a demanding Research and Development (R&D) environment • High electro-mechanical aptitude • Experience working with reciprocating diesel engines and gas turbine engines and engine control • Strong team player with willingness to pitch in and help out where needed • Ability to interact with customers • Detail oriented • Strong organization, communication & writing skills • Experience working with precision data transducers for both mechanical and electrical signal data acquisition • Experience working with high-speed rotating equipment • Experience working with high pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems • Experience with LabView for both data acquisition and control applications • Experience with Matlab and Microsoft Office tools • Experience with AC and DC motors, drives, and complex test arrangements
