Panasonic North America Facilities Mechanical Engineer III in De Soto, Kansas

As a Facilities Mechanical Engineer III, you will support the operation, design, and installation of mechanical facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and associated controls. We are seeking dedicated individuals to join us as full-time, on-site team members at our new, state-of-the-art factory located in the thriving city of DeSoto, Kansas.

Essential Duties:

  • Support the operation, performance, design, and installation of mechanical facility systems generally composed of central and unitary/zone level HVAC air and hydronic systems, exhaust air systems, plumbing systems, and associated controls. Mechanical equipment includes (but is not limited to) chillers, cooling towers, pumps, steam boilers, heat exchangers, condensate return, process water, compressed air, central air handler units, makeup air units, clean room recirculation units, dry room dehumidification units, dust collectors, humidifiers, CRAC units, VAV and fan powered terminal units, exhaust fans, domestic water service, domestic hot water heaters, sanitary waste, PLC controls, and SCADA user interface.

  • Assist the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team with updating O&M requirements, as-built documentation, and spare parts inventory analysis.

  • Witness O&M activities and coordinate with O&M staff to identify opportunities for improving maintenance and operational efficiencies.

  • Support the O&M team with troubleshooting root causes of performance issues.

  • Support facility design expansion projects to enforce facility standards.

  • Assist with development and review of sequences of operations and the location of control sensors and devices in the execution of the controls-related scope in facility expansion/sustaining projects.

  • Understand industrial equipment and processes, their operating parameters, and make recommendations to improve or maintain the associated controls and instrumentation.

  • Conduct routine, ongoing assessments of the facility systems operations including tests, rounds, data analysis to assure the proper functioning of systems and equipment.

  • Utilize automated fault detection and diagnostic tools to analyze IEQ and energy conservation measures.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures as well as utilization of protective equipment.

  • Respond quickly to emergency situations such as fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.

  • Maintain ongoing communications with vendors.

  • Conduct audits of supplier work performed in the field.

  • Develop relationships and communicate with engineers across disciplines and at other Panasonic sites to foster best practice sharing and communication.

  • Training of junior facilities staff on systems, procedures, and safety.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees, wearing PPE is a requirement to access some areas and for some roles at PECNA and may include equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, bump cap, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education :

  • Basic/Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related engineering field.

  • 5+ years of relevant HVAC Design, MEP Construction Coordination, and/or Facilities Engineering work experience

  • Familiarity with DDC and/or SCADA control interfaces

Essential Qualifications:

  • Skills and experience necessary to satisfy the required “Essential Duties”.

  • Knowledge of and comfort with Microsoft Office Suite software including Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Experienced with reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting complex project design documents via AutoCAD, Visio, and Bluebeam.

  • Excellent organizational and verbal skills.

  • Being approachable. Must be comfortable communicating/troubleshooting with all levels of the organization.

  • Ability and proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and presenting technical information to non-technical audiences.

  • The ability to respond effectively, verbally, and in writing to sensitive issues, complex inquiries, or complaints.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including patience in overcoming communication challenges while resolving technical issues with team members who may have different cultural and lingual backgrounds.

  • Strong team building skills and willing to learn from and accept guidance from others.

  • Able to manage multiple concurrent tasks in a fast-paced environment, effectively prioritize work, and deliver quality results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working as a Facilities Engineer and/or working at a manufacturing facility.

  • Experience supporting or reviewing the installation of MEP equipment on construction projects or within manufacturing environments.

  • Experience with managing projects effectively.

  • Experience with reviewing standard operating procedures.

  • Basic understanding of control PID loop tuning.
