Grain Freight Manager – Decatur, IL

This is a full-time, exempt position.

The role of Grain Freight Manager is to Develop and maintain relationships with the Central IL Farm Origination Team, Central & East Central Illinois Commercial teams, Decatur Corn/Soy processing, Trucking Companies (drivers), as well as the farmers that we service.

Work with the origination team to develop competitive rates off farm to our processing facilities as well as country elevator assets. Work with the commercial teams in central and east central Illinois to develop competitive rates to any destination that they think they can deliver to.

Understand current costs in order to make better informed decisions when quoting rates to farmers and commercial teams.

Work closely with FOB team to maximize backhauls for feed/fertilizer in the central Illinois corridor.

Travel with individual originators to farm meetings to gain insight on what the Producer needs from ADM as well as convey what we need from them to be successful.

Conduct meetings with haulers to develop a deeper understanding of their business in the hopes that they can grow their fleet. Learn and understand where haulers are based to insure they are running loaded as much as possible.

Gain a working knowledge and understanding of freight spreads between our country elevator network, processors, as well as each individual farm.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• University Degree in Agriculture or related field of study

• 3+ years of experience in commodity trading and or logistics

• Computer competence, especially use of email, Future Source, AGRIS, IBM, and internal web based applications

• Demonstrated capacity to excel in a fast paced environment

• This position requires working at a desk both on a telephone and at a computer for prolonged periods of time

• Some overnight travel required with this position
